Complete power loss on highway

My saga continues driving my Maverick hybrid to NY to visit my mom for Mother’s Day hoping the new Battery/Smart Junction Box that my Ford Dealer replaced on 4/9 was the culprit in the shutdowns experienced on 3/28.

5/10/24 Maverick shutdown 3x driving on highway around 70 mph during 400-mile trip. Had to wait approx. 20-minutes each time for engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. NY Ford dealer diagnosed on 5/13 and reports: U1010 is present , Hybrid Powertrain Control Module is suspected to be bad They said it would take a few days to get a new PCM from Ohio warehouse. I couldn’t wait and had to return to MD for work on 5/14.

5/13/24 Shutdown 4x driving on highway around 70 mph during 400-mile return trip. Had to wait approx. 20-minutes each time for engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. Fortunately, no accidents and I was always able to find a safe spot on the side of the road to pull over to and wait for 20 minutes or so.

5/14/24 Received Ford Safety recall notice 23S27 for Software to repair 2022-2023 Mavericks to update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) free of charge (parts and labor). Note NY Ford Dealer recommended replacing PCM vs. repairing or uMD Ford Dealer to see what they say.

Wow, glad you were safe despite all those problems. Sounds like what happened to me. Engine shut down but worked again after 15 minutes or so (right as I was about to call a tow truck). Got my Maverick back from the dealer this evening. They said they installed over 9,000 updates, one of which was 24S27. Will drive it tomorrow, some of which is highway. Kind of nervous 😓.

5/21/24 Dealer reports issues fixed by updating BCM and PCM software for recalls, 23s27 UNDER HOOD FIRE, 24527 BODY CONTROL MODULE BCM SOFTWARE UPDATE, and 24s33 POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE PCM SOFTWARE UPDATE, the one I and many others are hoping fixes the problem with our engines shutting down. Time and long trips, 200+ miles will tell.

7/4/24 FYI my 2022 Hybrid Maverick was fixed by 24S33. I have driven two 400-mile trips without shutting down as it did nine times prior to getting the PCM software update for 24S33. I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July, and thank those who helped Ford and NHTSA with info. to get this fixed.

Mine lost power but no warning lights. Just had to turn off and restart and everything is fine now. The dealer said it could be due to transmission issue. I have 4 recalls to be done and probably get them done this Friday when I drop off the car to get them updated. It sucks because they won't provider a loaner if I need transmission fixed.

I think these failures were all after having recalls done affecting the PCM and had nothing to do with the 12v battery problem. Word has it that Ford has a fix for the bad recalls that started about the end of March. Seemed like mostly '22's and pre summer '23's were affected.
Edit: See thread "Limp Mode Fail Strikes Again" post by RadioDoc #35 and later for latest info.
FORD recall called me and sent a mobile service van, all software recalls including this scary one done, 4 recalls total, finished under 2 hours in my driveway.

I have a 24 maverick Hybrid lariat. 3 times now in the couse of owning it it has just lost acceleration engine power. Dash is on and says electric driving. But no power(acceleration) when gas peddle is pressed. The problem happened today doing 70. I'm glad I was able to get over and stop before the construction lane merge. Once back on road I bee lined it to Ford. The Ford service shop had no clue. So I showed them many google hits and posts. I am waiting to hear back from the shop.

Good luck, File a complaint with the national safety board. Ford needs to fix this dangerous loss of power ASAP!

Feb 2025. Ford reflashed computers. They could find no codes. Will see what happens.

June 11. Around 8 am in HOV lane doing 75mph. Wife in the passanger seat. 2 bikers coming up fast behind me. Loss of acceleation!!!! Traffic was busy so I could not move over 4 lanes to the right side. I am so glad the center had enough room for me to pull into and stop safely. The bikers probably got pelted with the road crap as I pulled over. Sorry dudes. I turned of truck and waited about 30 seconds. Then back on. No codes. We merged back on and went our way without furture issues. On the way I called my Ford dealer to report and they saw nothing flagged and the service rep had no clue and hasnt heard of this. I scheduled service for June 24th 2025. I filed a report with NHTSA on June 22 2025. Just to note again. This is the 4th time owning this truck that this issue has happened.
