Class 2 registration?

I just got my registration in the mail today. The dealer registered as a class 2. Has anyone else had this happen here in Pa? I didn't think this little truck would require that.

In California the Mav gets registered as a commercial vehicle, sounds like that is the same or similar to a class 2 in PA.

Here in CT I thought it would be registered similar and id get combination plates. But nope registered as a passenger vehicle with normal passenger plates. Maybe it’s a state to state thing.

I am also in Pennsylvania. My Maverick is registered as Class 2. Got my registration from the dealer so I could remove the Temporary Registration from the rear window. Came with a Class 2 sticker for the windshield. I also have a “truck” license plate.
Guys I work with kid me about buying a “real truck”……I just point to my license plate “Pennsylvania thinks this is a real truck”

I was told because how close it is to 5000 pounds that I can get it reregistered to a class one in six months. I will definitely be doing that.

Money……..Class 2 is more money for Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania we have to renew our vehicle registration and inspection yearly.

I just did a little digging and it looks like it's about gross vehicle weight. Class 2 is supposed to be 5k lbs and the mav is not 5k lbs. I wonder what gives? Why would they push you into a vehicle weight class you do not fit?

Maverick has a GVWR of 5200.

According to Ford, the curb weight of a new Maverick is 3674 lbs. Add the ~ 1495 lb payload and you're over 5000 lbs, placing the vehicle in Class 2.

Interesting. I'm in PA and I don't believe I got Class 2 designation. There was some confusion at my dealer with my vanity plate. At first they couldn't transfer it, but then at the last minute, they were able to transfer it? It came from a passenger car and was not a Truck tag.

In the upper left corner of the country... (That would be Washington St.) the default license is a "Car" license, but I have the option to register it as a Commercial vehicle.

I’m a PA resident and my MAV is registered as Class 1 ( 5,000 Reg Gross WT ). Below picture is from my registration document
