I installed the chrome lettering on my Maverick tailgate and looks good. I have had a bit of a change of heart but not fatally and wondering if it's possible to put the black matte lettering over the chrome. Fine if not but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered/tried removing the chrome lettering with hot water (or steam) and waxed dental floss? Watch a YouTube video of someone removing badging to see how the tape comes off. I removed my AWD badge to paint it black, then applied new tape and reinstalled it. (I also got the chrome lettering but painted it black before installing - I thought the metal lettering would last longer than some of the cheaper alternatives but didn't like the mirrored look...)

I'm thinking a blow dryer or a heat gun and some floss will probably get it off.

Apply WD40 to edges. Let it soak. Gently pry with plastic trim tool while spraying more in back of letters. Clean up any adhesive with same.
