I found the following article of interest. I know quite a few people on this forum are not wild about articles from "Motorious". However, I have seen this same info on other sources. The main problems seem to be with buyers getting their documentation, especially titles, in a timely manner. Most people on this thread are looking at these two companies to sell their vehicle. However, Carvana's dollar loss per vehicle and documentation problems could affect just how long they are around or if they have to scale back the offers, they are making. In a year these sources of resale may be offering a lot less money for a car/truck

I agree. Their business model doesn’t make sense and they are part of the reason used car prices are so high. I would NEVER buy from them and I think selling to them is a risk going forward that their check will even clear.

I just sold a lease car and Carvana was highest until I tried KBB. Basically KBB is a portal for local dealers to bid on your vehicle and one said they would beat any written offer by $500. I sent them Carvana offer and closed the deal. I would trust a good local dealer over Carvana and like that I get handed a check before handing over keys.

Carvana is offering nearly 5K more for my current vehicle than Vroom or KBB. It seems too good to be true, so fingers crossed the deal goes through here in 2 weeks.

I went from just wanting to keep my car for several more years, to it being close to a wash to sell and buy a Maverick.

Car max gave me the best offer on my future trade in being 3k over carvana or vroom. I just hope it’s stays that high when the maverick finally comes in.

When I see things like “losing $3100 per vehicle sale” I would say run away and don’t look back. If y’all want to sell your Mavs to them, do it NOW and pray the check clears. I would never, ever buy from them though.

If u ever wanna piss off a carvana rep, ask them for a copy of the title. Even they don't know where it is.

How did it go with carmax? From what I gather you drive it to a carmax they inspect it then cut a check on the spot? I have two small door ding dents on the door that I am wondering how much they will take off the price.

I am in the same boat. You can get a ding puller kit on amazon for like twenty bucks. Gonna at least try to pop them out.

Just sold my 2014 Mazda5, 2 days ago, for $2,542 less than I paid for it 7 years ago. Easy transaction but crazy high prices in the market.

Thanks, I was not thinking that. Definitely worth a shot. I have access to dry ice so I may try that method first. Funny how we live with minor issues for years and when you’re selling (car/house) you fix those things 🤦‍♂️.

I wouldn’t try it yourself. The dealer would rather get a car with dings than a car with pop-out bulges from a diy kit attempt.
The dealer will remove the dings with their own contracted person for a discount before selling it.

Last time I traded in a car, I detailed it myself. Filled in all the scratches and every inch was sparkling clean and shiny. When the salesman saw it his eyes lit up because he knew that as long as it ran he could immediately turn it around for big money and it would cost him nothing. I got a LOT more than I was expecting and more than KBB said I would.

It is definitely worth putting in the effort if you have the skills.

I helped my son sell his 19' Camaro in November. An offer from Carmax was 3k more than Vroom or Carvana.

Carvana makes it's dough on the back end with high financing rates. Outbidding the competition for inventory was a way to lose money in the beginning to build inventory and let financing make up the up front cots after the first five years of operation.

True; I am just warning against cheap pop-a-dent kits. They usually result in more work for the paintless dent repairman later.
