Hello to all. I have a question about:

I was trying to apply for a car loan but I got denied. When I asked what was the reason they didn’t accept my request, regarding the fact that my credit score is 787, the answer was that I have a deceased label on my credit report. I don’t know why there is such an error in my report, but I suppose that it could be because of my brother that died 3 months ago. We have very similar names. I pulled out my reports from Equifax, TransUnion and Experian and only TransUnion shows me deceased. I followed these steps https://consumerattorneys.com/article/transunion-deceased with the dispute, but even after the dispute I got denied for the car loan. Then I rechecked again my reports and it still shows the deceased label. Should I try to fill the form again or it is useless in my situation?

I would suggest two alternatives to remove the deceased status from your TU credit profile.

Expensive: Engage legal counsel, specifically an attorney that specializes in financial matters. A lawyer that works closely with a local CPA who is also a CFP can almost certainly solve this for you in short order.

Economical: Talk the issue over with your credit union's local branch manager. Most credit unions have financial advisors in house, and they should have access to the people and tools necessary to complete the process on your behalf. This may take a little more time, but the CU is your team, so unlike a bank, they will work on this on your behalf.

Bureaucracies.....good luck proving that you are alive.

Reminds me of the time I purchased my father's truck from his estate.
When I tried to register it in my state the clerk insisted that my father had to sign the title. This is after I presented her with copies of his death certificate and my brother's power of attorney as executor of his estate. My brother had signed the title.

The clerk wouldn't budge.

Many people think your SSN is tied to your credit, well it is....but it's about third in line. It's mostly matched up by your FULL NAME and your DOB. if someone has the exact same name and they died recently, it will show up and they think you are dead. Go to annualcreditreport.com and get the free pdf file. It also have the phone numbers for all 3 bureaus. Call them, tell them u r not dead. Then have the lender re-pull your credit.

If you still need a loan, I can suggest dcu.org. the rate blows, but it's terrible everywhere else.
