Our hybrid has about 6000km/3500 miles. Recently, we've had some unsettling incidents when braking, or fully stopped.
Today, stopped at a green light waiting to turn left while traffic cleared the intersection, there was a "clunk" and the truck lurched forward a bit. I actually thought the engine had died, it was that noisy and violent. My wife said she had the same issue a few weeks back on a road trip to visit one of the kids.
Later in the day, when moving slowly, after 45 minutes of start-and-stop traffic, something made a funny noise while we were inching forward.
In every case, the truck was warm - it had been driven for an hour or two. I'm a slow-and-steady driver - no rapid acceleration or sudden braking - gas is expensive and I love the fuel economy of the hybrid.
Anyone else experienced this?
I've not liked the braking much. When the engine is on (not in electric mode), it's harder to stop the truck - the engine seems to generate additional forward momentum that isn't present when the truck is in full electric.
Not to muddy the water, but I've also noticed that the fuel economy is on the decline. The weather is a fair bit colder, so maybe the battery pack is cooler and can't deliver as many electrons to the electric motor.
I normally don't purchase the extended warranties, but I'm glad I did.
