When in Brake Coach mode when I stop and wait on a light to change a screen appears and it says" Brake Coach %Energy returned" Looked in manual and did not find good explanation for it and did not find much info here using search. Can anyone explain what that is trying to tel l me?

Thanks

Spitballing here but my interpretation is % of electrical energy returned via regenerative braking vs. mechanical pad engagement (brake pressure needed?). By that logic, 100% would mean mechanical brakes did not need to be engaged to slow, believe the cut-off for regen is ~3 mph but would need to check the manual.

It means that if you're careful you could never have to replace your brake pads. Only you get to decide if that sort of behavior is worth it.

So I was thinking about what that 100% means today as it flashed up at each stop. Is it the percentage of energy that the battery has used to get you there? Or the amount of energy from the moving mass of the truck. I sure wish they had a high-voltage battery meter or display somewhere.

I am thinking that if the battery is mostly charged the display I see is about how much energy was captured from the moving mass.

Like others said:

100% means the electric motor/generator did all of your stopping down to 3 mph.

80% means the brake pads did 20% of your stopping.

It does NOT give indication of how fully charged your battery is.

OK, got it. It captures the mass-energy you have at the time. More speed, more mass, and a longer period of light braking are needed to capture it all with the regen system. Kind of like using the manual transmission to reduce your speed in lieu of the brakes.

I have been driving a manual all my 50-plus years and I think that has trained me for this Maverick of mine. I consistently get the 100% at the end of a complete stop.

I also think it trained me to power up slowly and consistently and that gives me MPG.

Where was this truck 20 years ago? I can only imagine what we will drive in 20 more years. I expect to be still driving the HPR Maverick.
