before I got the ARE shell I had a OEDRO soft tonneau cover on my bed and it worked great. In fact I am looking to get rid of it now that I have the shell. it attached with 2 clamps at the from of the bed and then two at the back. its a trifold and worked well for me while I had it. good price too, about $175 or so on amazon.

I have one of the $130 Amazon soft roll up. Took me 20 minutes to put it on the first time. Second time I didn't stop for a smoke and it only took 15.

I bought an undercover ultra flex Hard Tri-Fold. It is pricey, but real truck.com gives 10% off foe MTC members. I was impressed by their simple rail and connector system. If price is the defining constraint, then this is not the way to go. YouTube install videos are available. They use a “slam latch” system that I really like.

good luck with your install, whatever you purchase.
My question is does the cover leak and does it make any rattling noises when driving over bumps. I noticed a Maverick next to me while I was driving mine and noticed the cover bouncing a little. I don't know if it was a soft or hard cover tri-fold, however I certainly do not want a cover that bounces, dries out or will fade badly from the ultraviolet rays from the sun. I don't know if after market is any good or to just stick with ordering the Ford Advantage Folding Cover.

I have the Ford soft rollup and I'm guessing if I did it a few times it would take about 15 minutes total.

These lower cost tri-fold hard covers are hard to beat for the price:

I personally have a soft tri-fold, but I like the tri-fold because they can be completely removed in less than a minute and they have NO SIDE RAILS to contend with. The plan all along is to get one when they become inexpensive....They were $400+ last year.

Out of curiosity, what is the bed mat material you are using? I was going to do something similar using foam exercise mats. I like how yours looks.

Hello all,

I'm looking at some tonneau covers for my Maverick but I don't really like the look of them and don't want it installed all the time. I would only really use it on road trips where we may have some luggage in the back or something else we would want to keep secure and free from inclement weather.

What are the best options for covers that will need to be installed and uninstalled a few times a year? My first inclination is to go the soft rollup route since it's the cheapest and will fit the bill, but looking at the install options for these it seems these are also the biggest pain to install and remove, usually clamped to the underside of the bed and secured with bolts. I'd love something that can be installed and taken down by hand instead of needing tools to install.

Any suggestions?
I got this off of eBay for $400 plus tax last April. Made an offer for $400 I think it was listed for $469 at the time. Looks like they lowered to $389 now with the make an offer option so I'd make a lower offer than listing price.

Been happy with it. 6 attachment points real easy to put on and take off. There are 2 clamps that are screwed on and 4 clamps that have a lever to lock and unlock. 2 clamps in the middle of each section. I eventually just removed the 2 screw on clamps and moved 2 clamps from the middle to the front of the cover where it attaches to the bed closest to the cab leaving the middle section unclamped. The clamps can fall off the channels when mounting or unmounting so just be careful taking it off. Seems to be about as water tight with or without the middle clamps. Water gets in a little when it rains but not too bad. Not as advanced or fancy as some of the other options but works well for what I paid. Comes off in less than 5 minutes after you get the hang of it. I've but 6 1 gallon jugs of water on top of the cover and the weight does not seem to be an issue so the panels seem to be pretty sturdy. For the price of a name brand soft cover you get hard cover.
