It could be just coincidental but I think my avg mpg has gone from 40 to 36 after installing a low pro bed cover.

it doesn’t seem to make sense unless there is some counter intuitive aerodynamic things going on.
Is this possible?

I'm on the flip side, being positive adding the tonneau cover helped my average mileage at speeds over 40-ish mph. May coincidence since the drivetrain main still have been breaking in, but I'm convinced it helped.

I have a Synetic retracting cover installed, however a hard rollup should work the same, although mine sits above the bed side caps, as opposed to in/even with them.

Probably is for another reason then.
My wife has a lead foot and she started driving it more.

On a related issue: In the Mythbusters episode "Tailgate up or down for better gas mileage", Jamie and Adam test the fuel efficiency of driving with the tailgate up or down while driving on a straight road at 55 mph. They find that driving with the tailgate down increases drag and is less fuel efficient than driving with the tailgate up. For example, after driving 300 miles with the tailgate up, there doesn't seem to be much difference in gas consumption, but after 500 miles with the tailgate down, Adam runs out of gas before Jamie does. This result is the opposite of the myth.

Yep, I remember that episode of Myth Busters. That was awhile back :)
