I'm talking the Gene Autry version of Back in the Saddle, not the Aerosmith version.
My Maverick is back from the hospital. For those of you that haven't heard of my dilemma, my vehicle smelled so bad, I hated to get into it. It had a leak at the firewall in the glove box area, which required major surgery. I will include photos of the molestation, but for now, here's the skinny:
PROS: The dealer, or more specifically, the technician, did a great job making everything work again. No rattles, annoying noises, obvious "I've been ripped apart" signs of any kind. I feared battery issues, as it had been down so long (nearly 7 weeks). So far, no issues with that whatsoever. Also amongst the pros, I has a loaner while it was down. That was HUGE!
CONS: Ford would not authorize replacement of the freakin' floor mats. These are factory mats, not K Mart mats which were rendered useless by the putrid smell that permeated them. I ordered the $175.00 option of rubbers and carpeted factory mats. When the stink first got out of control, I thought it may be the all weather mats that stink-stank-stunk. I took them out of the Maui, and stuck them in the garage. Then. the garage stunk. I thought they were the problem. WRONG! So I put the carpeted mats in, thinking I would live happily ever after. They also are now contaminated.
Now I have new carpeting and jute (jute being the carpet backing, as I have found many young folk never heard the term). i hate to step on the new carpet without a mat. I found a product on line that promises to anti-smell fish coolers. What stinks more than that? I did several applications and thought the problem was eliminated. Another thing that was eliminated was feces from my bowels when I opened the door the next morning. I threw the mats on the lawn in total disgust. Birds, squirrels, rabbits, and other wildlife have fled my yard...
