Supposedly it is not a typical starter, and it is designed to handle it.
But I’m with you, I don’t need that wearing out. I also don’t like the idea of it running of the battery each time it stops either.
My CRZ hybrid used the electric drive motor as the starter with a standard starter for really cold weather. I think the regular starter came on twice in the 250k before I wrecked it. Was very smooth and silent. I think it would be hard on a standard starter.

I tried to get use to the auto stop/start function, but my old-school brain could not tolerate it. I bought the eliminator for $89. Simple no tools plug-in. Now when I start the truck, the auto start/stop defaults to the off mode.
EB or Hybrid? wondering how much this add on would mess with the hybrid system that is inherently supposed to turn itself off

Auto start/stop is for EcoBoost only. As noted above, the engine, starter, and battery have been upgraded to support the feature, despite the concerns some share.

Maverick Hybrid is even better suited to frequently starting and stopping the ICE. It doesn't even have a conventional starter, but rather uses an electric motor as part of the eCVT in order to start the engine. Hybrids are known to go hundreds of thousands of miles without issue.

It also almost entirely defeats the purpose of a hybrid to keep the ICE running at all times when it's not otherwise necessary.
