Apple Car Play - Factory Wired Connection

Most of the times I receive a call and I cannot hear the person on the other end, but they can hear me.

This results in me having to remove the cord and turn on speakerphone so I can hear them.

It doesn't always do this.

The other day it happened 3 times in a row, with 3 different calls.

Doesn't matter if it's incoming or outgoing.

The next day I called someone using a regular call...they could hear me, but I couldn't hear them.
I hung up and made a facebook call.... we could both hear each other fine.
I called back the original person, using a regular call, and we could both hear each other fine.
This was all within a few minutes.

I cannot find any logic to explain this issue.
It would be much safer driving during calls if this issue did not occur.
Anyone have a solution?

Seems like lots of people have issues with the original Maverick Car Play. Had a 2025 rental for a week and not a single issue with car play (same phone, same cable, etc). Seems like defective design or defective equipment. Seems difficult to pinpoint "here is the problem, this is how to fix it"

a quick google +AI search gave me this bit of knowledge plus a handy link. (also just make sure your iOS is the latest)

A.I. said...

CarPlay updates in a Ford Maverick are primarily dependent on your iPhone's software, but maintaining your vehicle's infotainment system is also important for stability and compatibility.

1. Primary Source: Your iPhone
Apple CarPlay is essentially a projection of your iPhone's interface onto the vehicle's screen. To get new CarPlay features (like redesigned maps or new app layouts), you simply update your iPhone's iOS under Settings > General > Software Update. The car's display will automatically reflect these changes the next time you connect.

2. Secondary Source: Ford SYNC Updates
While the interface comes from the phone, the Maverick's Ford SYNC system needs periodic updates to ensure it can communicate effectively with the latest iOS versions and fix connection bugs.

SYNC 3 (2022–2024 Models): These usually require a USB drive to update. You can check for available updates by entering your VIN on the Ford SYNC Update page.

SYNC 4 (2025+ Models): These systems support Over-the-Air (OTA) updates via Wi-Fi or the vehicle's modem. You can enable these in your vehicle's settings under System Updates.

Phone is updated to current version and car play is updated as well (says it was updated via WIFI).

you stated you have to "remove the chord and turn on speaker" for this to work. Are you plugged in so you can charge the phone? Why not leave it unplugged if that works? Also, where is the phone located in the truck? I know when I place my phone up higher I get better communication with Siri, but it doesn't matter where my phone is placed when I'm taking calls. At least from what I can recall.

Also, is the phone new or old? A.I. says

Device-Specific Issues

Internal Antennas: Blocking your phone's antenna with your hand (the "death grip") or using metal/thick cases can significantly hurt reception.

Low Battery: When power is low, phones may reduce their transmission strength to conserve energy, making it harder to stay connected.

Outdated Hardware: Older phones may lack the modems or antennas needed to connect to newer, faster frequency bands like 5G.

SIM Card Issues: A loose or damaged SIM card can cause intermittent connectivity.

That is the solution when it doesn't work. The only way I can talk to them is to unplug the phone and talk on it (disconnect from car play). If it's unplugged then I can't use carplay. Phone is plugged in and placed right next to the screen. This has nothing to do with the phone hearing me. It can hear me fine, and the other caller can here me fine. The speakers in the car are not putting out any audio from the phone call.

Question, and I guess I could search... I'm in a 2025, do the earlier models have to have the phone plugged in for CarPLay to work?

what!!!! okay.. (That's SYNC3. I just read my own links from above in post#4)

I had the same issue with my 2017 VW Jetta. I could answer calls wirelessly but to use maps I had to be plugged in. HOWEVER, after I got rid of the car there's any adapter you can purchase which you plug in and it 'fakes' the hardline and lets you use it wirelessly. My son bought it after I gave him the car, the little bastard... let me find out what he got!

Phone is connected fine. I prefer to have it hardwired. No proof speaker audio, from only calls, will magically not be intermittently if I switch to a wireless setup.

This happens to me daily, all I do is turn on the speakerphone through the phone ON then immediately turn it OFF and that fixes it. If you can test it, you can hear that when you answer they are speaking through your phone as if you were holding it to your ear.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like that speaker phone button on the phone is more accessible. At one time I thought the car play screen allowed you to toggle through audio options, but I didn't see it the other day.
