Understood. I have been toying with the idea of taking a detour to Ontario on one of my cross-country trips and getting a Bison.Good price but not true trifold . third section doesn't fold up . I have undercover armor trifold for security and utility . pricey ( I paid $900 back in 22 )but it works well for me . not for everyone .

I have one which looks very similar. Works well, fairly water proof.

It is true that the one panel at the head of the bed will always be lying down over part of the truck bed, where some true tri-folds allow full bed access.
For the metal strips: did you use aluminum, stainless, or galvanized?
Indeed. Not too much of a concern for me. As a drummer, I've had to load and unload gear into all different sorts of vehicles (including sports cars - don't ask), so I can deal with just about anything that impedes access!
Yamaha Recording Custom, since 1982 (I was fortunate enough to get one of the earliest kits here in the US. The serial "numbers" are just a pair of letters). Original Steve Gadd set-up: 22, 10, 12, 13, 14 (all standard depth mounted toms. I've added several other pieces (later 80s), and for years I've used the "Charlie Watts" set-up: 20, 12, 16. Sabian cymbals since 1983. Current set-up: 14" HH Dark Hihats, 18" HH Thin Crash, 20" HH Medium Thin Ride (Custom Shop) or 20" AA Medium Thin Ride (Prototype "60s" ride), 20" HH Crash Ride.
I remember the original Sam Ash on 48th St in NYC (right near Manny's), but my go-to back then was Modern Drum Shop (Joe Cusatis's place; on 46th, as I recall; best prices on Remo heads in the universe; I still have a custom snare drum from them). Here in Philly, I went to Zapf's, which was quite the institution.
