There are not many if any "water secure" tonneau covers. At best, manufacturers will say things like "water resistant". Some leakage, mainly at the 4 corners of the bed is to be expected.

I would at least but a durable bed mat in the bed to keep things from sliding around too much.

For those who have a bed mat is it just a matter of pulling it out of there and letting the bed dry out every now and then? I would imagine water gets trapped under it like anything else, yeah?

Yep! Here in Texas, we are dry every two out of three years, so we don't have to do that very often

I think by using something such as TruxSeal tape you can do a pretty job of keeping water out of the bed. It looks like a bed matt would be the way to go.

I ordered (from Ford) The bed tray and tailgate liner. They are both Hard vinyl so the bed and tailgate won't take a beating. They are easy to install and fit around your cargo hooks.

I bought a 5x7 roll of black diamond plate rubber runner material at Home Depot for $52. I trimmed it to fit around the wheel wells, but left it long so it protects the tailgate when loading things, and also is long to hang over the tailgate in the half closed position when supporting 4x8 sheets of plywood, or sheetrock. Just fold it back into the bed when you close the tailgate.

You really can't go wrong with a spray in bed liner to protect the metal. Beyond that, every trunk ive ever had leaked even if just a little bit. take leakage into account when you load the bed and stop worrying.
