Sync3 System. All of the sudden today pressing the Voice button on the steering wheel when in Android Auto, pops up a message "Voice Commands aren't available right now."

I've tried rebooting the phone(Oneplus 9,) clearing data on Google App, clearing cache in Android Auto app, deleting and repairing the phone. Also downgraded AA to an earlier version.

I can say "Hey Google" and the phone responds, if the music isn't too loud.

Solved!
Issue caused by the Google app updating. I always have Auto updates turned off for this very reason, but somehow turned them back on I suppose.
Had to downgrade the Google app to a previous version, which required a PC and some ADB commands.

1. Download a previous Google app apk, I used Google App 14.31.21.29 (arm64-v8a) (nodpi) (Android 10+) APK Download by Google LLC - APKMirror (renamed to com.google.android.apk)
2. Install ADB on PC(and phone drivers) and open a command prompt in the adb folder with the google apk in the same folder.
3. type adb install -d com.google.android.google.apk (the -d is required so phone allows downgrade of app.)

Android Auto itself has been shitty for me since my app updated on August 8. I think many people know, but just as a reminder, Android updates are slowly rolled out so that there isn't a huge mass outage and it's easier on the file distribution as well.

AA has been slow to respond to voice assistant and sometimes won't even start properly until I disconnect and reconnect my phone.

At any rate, after reading this post, I checked again for updates and I got quite a few Google app updates but not 'Google' itself which is the voice assistant and on device search. I didn't get a new Android Auto, either, but I did get a new system webview and several other important background services.

I'm not curious enough to go driving right now just to try AA, though. 😆

You can downgrade Android Auto as well. Doesn't require using a PC. Just get the apk, uninstall AA, and install the older version apk. I used to do this often to keep screen to auto running properly, but haven't needed to in a long time.
I'm not having any issues with the latest Android Auto myself.

I noticed I was signed up for the Google app beta, which may or may not have had something to do with this. I canceled my beta access just in case.
