Hi,

I'm trying to come up with a way to secure a cooler in the bed. Are there any safe points on the bed floor where I can install tiedowns? This is my first truck and I didn't want to just start drilling without asking...

This is what I want to install.

For what it's worth, my bed is not lined, only has a bedrug on it (which I can cut slits into to accommodate the tiedowns).. and if possible, I'd like to install in on the driver side between the 2x6s and the cab. The general idea is:

Anyone do anything similar?

One strap to the tie down in that front left corner of the floor and another strap to a tie down you install in the appropriate location on your lower 2x6.....

On my (6) 1000 mile fishing trips each year my large cooler goes in the middle across the back and up against the tailgate so I can easily access with the tail gate down, and a strap to the upper or lower rings in the back / side of the bed.....

This is an interesting problem. Maybe build a jig out of 2x4's to fit the cutouts? I wouldn't want to drill a hole in my bed, but I'm sure people do it all the time. If I were to do it, I'd drill, prime, and bolt, not tap a threaded hole.

You may want to ask FORD about drilling holes in the bed. If anyone remember last year when the spay in bed liner caused recalls to several trucks due to holes in gas tank, the tank is plastic easy to drill into.

And right under the bed. Look at the drain holes in the front of the bed. Gas tank is under.
