I have searched the Forum and YouTube and still need some help...I am trying to disconnect the third-brake/cargo light from the harness to replace it with a smoked lens version. Clearly the harness is pinned to the cabin underneath the rear headliner and that is the only way to access the harness to disconnect (from what it seems). I have not found a very good video or explanation of either how to remove the headliner enough to access or any other trick. It's frustrating that such a simple task is made harder to lack of access to releasing the clip.

Anyone had any success?

I’m as frustrated as you. Got a couple of broken clips and stuck screws and now I couldn’t even remove them. Meanwhile there is not replacement screws or clips that I can find anywhere. And this already broken from the factory. I only knew because I tried to change to Lasfit bulbs and couldn’t get the damn screws out

Splicing wires isn't that hard. Is there enough slack when you remove the old light to do that?

Also can you simply swap the faceplate of the new light for the old or is it a sealed unit?

I replaced the stock unit with a smoked aftermarket one, I had to splice in the new connector, the headliner looked like way to much work to remove.

You can get T taps or just use splices just keep your stock connector in case you need to swap back.

Today I was able to cram my arm far enough up behind the headliner with the two retaining clips detached and blindly unclip the OEM harness, feed the new smoked LED lens housing wire through the hole in the back of the cab, and then (somehow) blindly attach the new harness to the female end while it was still clipped to the ceiling...It was not a pleasant experience and my hand is still feeling the effects but the light works!
