Same issue here. Most of my driving is in 30 min intervals but nearly every extended trip I have made on interstate this will happen.

OMG, thank you for posting this! I've had this happen a few times (usually when I'm on the highway, and have had the AC running for a while), and I thought I was losing my mind. It definitely kicks into another gear for a few minutes, then goes back to normal. Glad I'm not the only person who has noticed this.
I consider this a benefit as if my set fan speed will not keep cabin to within 1-2°F don't know exactly, the fan speed will momentarily increase until cabin temp is close to or at the set temp.
My residential heat pump operates the same way, the fan continually runs at slow speed to circulate air to reduce zoning of temperature and then variably ramps up both fan and condenser to maintain air temp to within 0.5°F.

Any updates on this this happens to me all the time on road trip and has nothing to do with CarPlay it just randomly increases the output really high and seems to be outside air too not recirculated air

Assuming you are using "Auto"... more than likely there is no "fix" since it is operating the way it was designed.

The auto fan speed button with the three amber lights only sets a "maximum" fan speed. Beneath that upper limit, the fan will speed up/slow down as necessary to maintain the temperature. "In theory," leaving that switch with all three lights illuminated gives you the full range of fan speeds from min to max.

If this system operates like the others I've had, it tries to figure out heat load when you are in direct sunlight, by using the same sensor the auto headlights use. Meaning, if you turn into the sun, it may speed the fan up.

When left in "Auto" the system should switch from recirc to fresh air as needed.

Have experienced the exact same issue. No auto, just fan on lowest setting. Then its like someone turn it on high with uncirculated (outside) air for a few minutes then it goes away.

I have experienced this as well when traveling on the highway. Not using auto but couldn't confirm other settings or conditions. It is pretty random so I have started noting conditions

conditions
I always have mine on fan setting 1
Vents set at forward (the face option)
Recirculating
Usually have temp on low but it happens to me at higher temp setting too

Once the event happens it feels like outside air and setting are showing as I have them but the speed is way up.

To fix it I click on the vent to legs only then wait a few seconds and then switch it back. But it is very annoying and don’t know if it’s meant to do this for some component or if it’s a defect

Yeah, sorry, I am not sure then. This thread goes back a couple of years to when people were still trying to figure out how Ford’s system worked, so you (and others) might have a new, unique problem….

There “might” be some auto logic happening even outside of the auto setting, but that seems unlikely.

I will say that I have noticed it seems like sometimes (maybe when recirc is not active) a LOT of air comes through. It's like a ram-air effect pushing outside air right past whatever fan setting you have. In my case, I can't tell if it's a headwind or faulty flapper somewhere, or what. Other than that, I still find the auto setting works good enough. Good luck with yours.

Suit yourself. 🤷‍♂️
huh? You assumed in your post that Mikemoon and I are experiencing this because we use "auto". Neither one of us had auto on when this happened. Just calling you out on that. What's "suit yourself" about?

I didn't reply to you, I replied to Miguel. So I hadn't really assumed anything about you at all.

Anyway, a simple "I have the same issue but am not using any auto settings" would've been adequate. Simply giving other forum members relevant information isn't "calling someone out," but if you feel like you had to "call out" someone just trying to help, good luck to you. Cheers.

Fan increases speed randomly. Screen says speed = 1, but blowing much stronger. Adjusting speed makes no difference. Turning air system on/off makes no difference. Phone not on, Bluetooth not on. Will eventually go back to normal.
