I haven't posted here in a while but thought I'd throw out come comments after owning the thing for just over a year.
As a quick rehash: When the 5th wheel camper and the 2500HD truck went bye bye we wanted a truck but didn't want or need anything nearly as big as the 3/4 ton GMC. We really liked our Escape Hybrid and had planned to use it as a tow'd behind a motorhome so I thought maybe a Maverick Hybrid might fit the bill and be the tow'd instead. (The MH purchase is now on hold but that's ok.) I did my typical lots of research and then the search began. The search went on for a few months and I eventually found my '24 Lariat w/ only 3,000 miles for an extremely good price and did the deal on 2 Jan '25. It's got about all of the options except the sun roof including the Ford tri-fold tonneau.
So far it's done a great job of the day-to-day job of being a capable and comfortable vehicle that does "truck things," at least at the scale I need. The big test came in early December when we loaded up us, our two large dogs, and everything we thought we'd need to spend the winter on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The bed was full of bins w/ our stuff, dog stuff, dog beds, and other essential stuff. We got a platform thing from Amazon to make the whole back seat area into a dog platform and the 85# and 65# Goldendoodles traveled well. When making the trip in the past w/ a truck and trailer we took our time and drove it in three or four days. Without having to deal w/ towing we cut that down to two days and the trip was right at 1000 miles. Through sun, clouds, rain, sleet, and threats of snow the Mav performed perfectly and we were comfortable, warm and dry for the entire trip. Much of the time we traveled at or slightly above 70mph and maintained gas mileage in the mid-to-high 30s.
Since our arrival the Maverick has continued to be utterly capable, reliable, and comfortable, though I wouldn't be happy if I owned a vehicle with 11,000 miles on the clock and it weren't utterly reliable and comfortable. While here in MS it's taken us all over, hauled building materials, and the tailgate has even served as a sawhorse and a dog grooming table. It's expected that we'll make the same trip several times over the next few years. At this time the only expected change will be to add one of those platforms that plugs into the hitch receiver; I'll be toting along a few more tools in the future.
Additional comments: I'm still not sure I like having a black vehicle again... it sure is pretty when it's clean though. It rides, drives, and haldles like a car, but does "truck things" at least the truck things I need to get done. It's been ecomonical and reliable. I'm still disappointed w/ Ford about a few of the little touches that should have been included in the Lariat; things that are a very welcome part of my Escape Titanium and would have been logical and easy to make part of the Lariat package. Am I happy I got it? Yes. Would I buy another? Probably. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes.
