Roof Top Tent (RTT) shakedown camping trip with Maverick Tremor

Took our Ford Maverick Tremor I've named Astley out for our inaugural roof top tent run. Headed out to Lava Lake and Little Lava Lake out by the 3 Sisters and Mt. Bachelor in Oregon. Headed over the pass to try and avoid the rain. Succeeded for the 1st day at least. Woke up to rain from the atmospheric river. So easy to set up the tent. Glad we bought the annex for the tent, it adds so much covered space. Slept well and stayed dry. The lakes were beautiful and tranquil. Had deer wander through the camp and got to see nighthawks and bats hunting at dusk along the lake. The magnetic waterproof bins I made were perfect for holding all the gear and didn't slide around on the drive over. Was a good shake down run only a few thoughts for things to add for convenience. A few more lights, better pillows, and some kitchen gadgets. Can't wait to get out again soon at a more taxing location to test the Tremor's abilities.

Funky Fauna beer is in Bend, OR they specialize in Saisons and funkier beers. That can was a colab with Obelisk brewing out of Astoria, OR. Very good beers.

Looks great. But I would be unhappy with the overall height. 18” higher than your pickup cab? Too much drag.

Yes, I like it lower but you do lose rear visibilty and storage options. It's also much harder getting gear out. I really like the op's annex, awesome, perfect for wind,rain,sun. Dig it

I didn't want to lose the ability to haul taller things in the back. I use transit for my daily commute this is more for adventures and road trips. I wouldn't have bought the Tremor if I was worried about MPG. Even with it on I've only lost 1-2 mpg on the highway. But the nice part of the Tuwa rack I got is that it is adjustable so if in the future I find I don't need the space I can certainly drop it.

We're still on the fence about a rooftop tent or just a spacious ground tent; or even using the Mav for camping at all. I have the Transit(not Connect) set up as a campervan, and it would be a huge downgrade to go to a rooftop or ground tent after that.
But, your setup is what I think I'd prefer.
