P99Guy's contract negotiations with Ford.
If @Ford Motor Company wants to buy rights to the cad file, I am open to it. I would even be willing to trade for my maverick when it gets here and a new Maverick for @P99Guy. I will even throw in the one I was working on for F-150s but never finished.

I printed these yesterday and they are a perfect fit. There was a thread a while back where someone had mentioned hauling some pea gravel and some got into their tailgate through these openings and it rattled every time they would close the tailgate. I found this file on a Facebook group with the link to Thingiverse. Printed in Black PETG and took right at an hour. Very practical print and I have not seen anything like this being sold aftermarket.

This is the link if anyone wants to print it themselves.

Those are tailgate AIR VENTS and they serve an important purpose. They VENT MOIST AIR from your tailgate. Those are all vents and drains. Ever heard of diffusion?

Sorry OP, but this is possibly the worst and most pointless modification on MTC. 16 pages of misguided banter. Good luck with your future rusty tailgate(s).

Never heard of simply using a tarp (over the gap) when loading gravel??? Just go out there right now and throw them in the trash!

If that's the only retort, it's rather weak and relies on skewing my point to the extreme. Inside your non-waterproof tailgate, any TAILGATE AIR VENT covers (bad idea, don't install) will cut drying/diffusion of tailgate moisture by 95%, IMO. You gonna plug the drain holes too?

The covers should be used on-demand, temporarily or better yet, not at all. The guy had a 3d printer and wanted to make a buck. You got duped...

I gave the file to my son and had him print a couple of them. I'll test the fit the next time they come down to visit and let everyone know how it goes, and how they work.
I printed mine and fit like a glove!

Tom,

Boy I wish I made a buck on these!

If you take my time and effort to supply these I am paying everyone to take one. They are only available on this forum, are not posted on a for sale page anywhere and you have to wade through 16 pages to even find my ordering url.

Have you seen any of the 3D Printed Covers? Have you ever seen a 3D printed object?

They are far from water tight! The top layer (inside) has several points in the design that allow water to naturally seep from the edges.

I hope there will never be any water sitting long enough around the edge of the opening to create rust, but you are correct, long term testing has not been a possibility.

As to the openings, the large openings are there simply for manufacturing using good ole robots instead of humans, the actual drains/vents are along the bottom edge of the tailgate and are not covered by the hole covers.

I would print covers for the more expensive trucks as well but guess what? They dont have the large openings. The manufacturers must have a better way to ventilate if you pay more money.....

To each his own though. You dont have to purchase 1 or wade through 16 pages of posts to find 1 to order.

But hey, thanks for posting your opinions! Everyone needs hobby.

Oh and by the way, the word you are looking for is evaporation.
Diffusion is just the process of spreading the concentrated object(s) over a larger area.

If you look up Tommy Tucker's posts you'll find he is the forum gadfly. I think his brain is diffused. :) I wouldn't listen to anything he says. Your product and customer satisfaction speak for themselves. Remember, no good deed goes unpunished.

Old Norm, just noticed that you're in Cbus, about 60 miles up the road from me.........have to ask how you like the Mach E? I got to test drive one while my Maverick was at the dealer for a recall, I was amazed how quick those are...........

Love it. I've owned a Volt and a Honda Clarity and while they were PHEVs, the Mach E is a better all around vehicle. Of course if you visit the MacheEforum you'll see the usual gripes. But overall most owners love the car.

The original post was about the covers on Thingiverse, not the one piece being provided by @P99Guy. And, like I always say happens, someone did steal that design and has now posted it on Etsy for sale. It is those people that are trying to make a buck, and quite frankly, @P99Guy should be making a buck. The design of this cover was done because there was a want/need for them, not someone trying to take advantage of people.
@tom_tucker should be ashamed of himself for even accusing anyone of “just trying to make a buck” for a couple reasons. First off, the original poster did not design these, and he did not do anything to try to make a buck. Second, the actual designer of the 2 piece set has not even posted on this thread, he posted his design files for free, and all of the people trying to sell his designs to “make a buck” are the ones guilty of anything because they did not do anything to help design them. Third, as @P99Guy stated, he is not making a profit off the single piece units, although he should be because he spent a lot of time and his money developing them to make a product that he felt he could stand behind to fulfill a need that he and others felt was there.
If you want to throw stones, how about throwing stones at ford for designing a truck and selling it at a profit? What? It is ok for them to do that, but not those that design, on their own free time, mind you, for the betterment of these trucks that most people love?

Thanks for watching the Forum! Since you have an inside to Ford can you get a Designer/Engineer to explain the need/pupose of the 2 large holes in the bottom of the tailgate?

My vote is manufacturing.

Thanks!

16 pages of jibberish to solve an issue that doesn't exist and actually restricts airflow out of the tailgate. Wouldn't you just put a tarp down anyway?

If you didn't think I was loco, then I'd be worried... ;)

You mean the tailgate air vent you're blocking?
