My truck was in the shop for repairs for over a month after someone slammed into my driver's door. I picked it up today. After I pulled out, I noticed that the tank was very nearly empty. I also quickly noticed that the CHK light to the right of the fuel gauge was on solid. When I got home, I called the body shop, and they told me they ran a scan yesterday after the work was completed, and there were no codes. I have a call in to my Ford dealer, and I also have a Forscan-compatible OBD scanner on the way, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to pick some brains here, as well. I know that some vehicles with emission tech will show a code if the cap is not screwed on correctly after refueling. Is it possible that the light is somehow related to my extremely low fuel situation (I ran on fumes for a few miles before finding a station)? If so how long should it take to reset itself?

Honestly, that sounds like a classic case of the shop letting it idle for ages or just moving it around the lot until it was bone dry. I’ve seen Fords throw a solid light when the fuel level gets low enough to cause a temporary pressure drop or a slight misfire from sucking in air at the bottom of the tank. Usually, after a full fill-up, it needs about three or four "cold start" drive cycles, where you drive it up to operating temp and then let it cool down completely, for the system to verify the evap pressure is back to normal and clear the light. If you’ve already checked the gas cap, just drive it normally for a day or two; if it’s just a low-fuel fluke, it’ll likely reset itself before your scanner even arrives.

The Maverick has a capless filler system, so just make sure your fuel door is shut all the way.

As for the CEL, you can take it to a local Autozone and they can scan it to get the code for you.

The fault was actually shown and diagnosed in the Ford app. Sorry, should have checked that before posting, but I'm not yet used to this level of automation. According to that app:
"What Is Happening?
The powertrain control system has detected an electrical fault with one of the exhaust pressure sensors and its associated wiring."
So, it appears to be a legit code, and the timing was a coincidence. I have an appointment at my local dealership tomorrow, and they are going to do the trailer control module recall software update while is it in (all day, unfortunately) so I guess that's isn't too bad. I sure hope this is the last issue with this truck for a while, though...

Looks like the timing was coincidental - Ford app shows it as an exhaust pressure sensor issue. Fortunately, the scanner was just $35 and it was already on my wish list, so that is not a problem.

They body shop forgot to plug in my marker light harness on my front bumper which included the ambient temp sensor with fucks up the air intake opening and closing. I had to undo the plastic clips in the wheel well and do it myself. Body shop said the same shit to me

Well, the Ford dealership service dept ran 8 tests that all came up negative, so it was either a spurious code or the issue is intermittent. Light is out for now, I will keep a close eye on it and use my new OBDCII tool if it shows again. I think they must take engine ceck codes seriously, I kind of doubt that a first thing next morning appointment would have been available if I wanted routine maintenance.
