I have had my 2024 XLT Hybrid with tow hitch and block heater since April 2024. My 2025 Hybrid XLT is on order and is scheduled for production first week in January.

I intend to trade in, but with the current Canadian Dollar trending down, it looks like selling in the US could be better.

My 2024 currently has 28000 km (17,360 miles) and rising. MSRP was about $39,000 CDN. ($27, 157 USD).

Looking at current ads, it looks like mine might sell for $35,000 CDN ($24371 USD) in Canada.

Looking at ads in the US, and according to those, mine might sell for about $28,000 USD ($40,210 CDN).

Anybody bought or sold across the border like this recently?

The backup camera recall could be a big snag, too. I have imported several vehicles into Canada over the years when our dollar was strong and a recall clearance letter from the manufacturer was required stating that all recalls were completed on the vehicle.

I don't think anyone in the usa who researched it would be interested especially with a 25% duty. That is if this information is correct.

Foreign-made vehicles imported into the U.S., whether new or used, either for personal use or for sale, are generally dutiable at the following rates: Auto 2.5% Trucks 25% Motorcycles 2.4% or free.

I believe Canada, the US, and Mexico are not considered "foreign". The vehicle manufactured in Mexico and being imported from Canada would be duty free. I am no expert, but I know that as the foreign exchange fluctuates this dance is an ongoing thing.

You are correct, cars is 2.5, trucks are 25%. Thus the thread was concerning trucks, (Ford Maverick) is the reason I posted.

All not relevant for cars manufactured in Canada, USA, or Mexico!! USMCA (formerly NAFTA) allows vehicles to move without duty between the three countries. The term foreign refers to the rest of the world.

I'm not going to debate this issue. For one I do not know, except Google says otherwise. Also growing up next to Canada there was always a duty growing up. Since then my traveling days are over and I'm being honest I don't know the truth. You and others are posting no but different ways asking Google comes up with the same or similar results saying yes about paying a duty. There is one exception if just moving into a country within one year. Like moving to US with a Canadian vehicle.. all I can say is buyer beware and do your homework.

AI Overview
+3

No, importing a truck from Canada to the United States is not duty free:

  • Import tax
All foreign cars are subject to customs duty, which is 2.5% of the declared value for passenger cars and 25% for cargo trucks, pickup trucks, and cargo vans.

  • Personal use
Nonresidents may be able to import a vehicle duty-free for personal use for up to one year if they import it when they arrive in the US. However, if the vehicle doesn't meet US safety and emission standards, it must be exported within one year and can't be sold in the US.

  • Age of vehicle
Vehicles that are less than 25 years old and don't comply with all applicable FMVSS can't be legally imported into the US unless the NHTSA determines it eligible. The 25-year rule is intended to ensure that imported vehicles are distinct from newer models and have historical significance.
The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforces customs rules.

Keep reading on the page you’re sharing. You’ll see the info about USMCA. It is clear that currently no duty.

There are a couple potential issues though Trump is talking a lot about putting 25% duty on Canada.

The backup cam recall may also put a roadblock up.

When I bought my Mav a year ago I had to sign an Agreement NOT to sell it in the US. At the time Mavs were in short supply and US Dealers were selling above MSRP.

Check to see if the same covenant applies to you.

I have all the paperwork from the sale. I’ll check it out. Thanks for the tip.

If mine goes south would probably be a courtesy transaction through dealer to wholesaler to have sales tax benefit.

Chicken tax… that’s the 25% on foreign trucks, but doesn’t apply to Mexico. Tons of trucks are made in Mexico and sold in US including GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Ram heavy duty pickups, etc.
