Hello all, I'm posting this for my brother, his 2023 Area 51 XL Hybrid with Copilot 360, trailer hitch, and tailgate lock is scheduled to be built Aug 8th, he's run into some financial hardship so he's hoping to sell it at his cost plus $3k. Please let me know if you're interested, thanks! P.S. I'm not sure of the exact price because he hasn't received it yet, but I do know he's getting it for MSRP

Washington state has a sales tax up to 8% which will be added to his cost. Probably looking at 5K above MSRP. I don't know of a way to not pay the sales tax for the person that ordered the truck.

Sales tax depends on location. I pay 8.1% where I live, other locations in my county (Spokane County, WA) pay 8.9%

Here's the problem as I see it: Your brother doesn't actually own the vehicle at this point. If he is financially strapped, can he buy it outright, or will he need a loan to get it? And is hoping to be able to turn right around and sell it to someone else?

If he cannot afford to buy it outright AND is unable to get a loan for it, whoever is interested will have to buy it from the dealer, which takes your brother out of the equation.

That being said, I know someone who had a hybrid on order in June, I can reach out and see if they are interested, although they were going to trade-in their EB on the Hybrid.

It might be possible to go to the dealer with my brother, and have the buyers name put on the title at the same time and use their address for sales tax purposes.

If you do that, your brother will not be the one selling the car, the dealer will. And then the dealer may just put their own "market adjustment" on the truck, again leaving your brother out of the equation

If your brother can pay for the truck outright, he just needs to advertise it for what he wants to sell it for. The buyer then pays sales tax when they go to register the vehicle.

It wouldn't work like that, they would just be the "co-owner", then my brother's name could be removed after the sale, this would prevent having to pay sales tax twice, maybe not pay any depending on the state your from. Either way, that's just one way to do it, the other, like you said is just for him to buy it, then sell it.

If there is financing, it's going to go under both credits, and you'll have a hard time changing owners before the financing is paid off. If bought outright, what happens during the 30 days it takes to get the tax, title, doc stuff squared away when both own the car? Insurance, accidents, tickets, etc?

What happens when they both show up to the dealer and the other guy says your brother doesn't want the truck and he'll pay the dealer $1k over MSRP for it? Remember it's not his truck until he pays for it.

Also wonder how much of a financial hardship this really is if he's ok paying cash for the truck? Or it's just a way to make a few bucks.

Just don't see this working out. There are already plenty of dealers charging markups on trucks that don't require a cat and mouse game and you can just showing up and buy it.

Lots of comments, this isn't a cat and mouse game at all, I'm just trying to help my brother out, and help someone get the Maverick they're looking for. Any concerns will be worked out with the buyer, my brother and I are stand up people, I'm just finishing up a 30 year career as a firefighter, this is a legit deal, no need to throw shade.

Think you took my comments the wrong way. I wasn't throwing shade, whatever that means, the comments were legitimate things to think about. You're talking about a lot of moving parts that would need to line up.

No doubt, you are looking out for your brother! We are trying to figure out how it'll work, and to see if it's worth pursuing for ourselves, or for folks who WE know who are looking.

Understood, I would just ask that you message me directly, and I'll be happy to answer any questions. I love my Maverick, probably the best vehicle purchase I've ever made, I would like to help someone out if possible.
