  1. The ‘greenest’ car in America (Spoiler Alert - It's not an EV)

An interesting article comparing the overall impact of ICE, Hybrid, plug in hybrid and EVs on the earths resources (greenest). There is an EV that comes out near the bottom of the list, you probably have a good idea what it is but you will have to read through the article to find it...
  2. Mandated Driving Impairment Detection

I guess this would be an extension of the 'Drowsy Driver Alert' system we have on the Maverick: https://www.sae.org/news/2024/01/nhtsa-driver-impairment-regulation.
  3. Bye Bye Maverick, Farewell MTC

I’ve sold the Maverick back to the dealer I bought it from - for more than I paid for it. I got to drive a cool vehicle for 6 months without it costing me anything. But it’s too big and I don’t need a truck. My first time owning a hybrid, I learned a lot about the technology (much of it from...
  4. Is the Maverick 'L' mode the Same as the Prius 'B' mode?

I know we have members that have owned Prius's (Prii?) and Mavericks, just wondering if the Prius 'B' (Braking) mode is the same as as using the Maverick's 'L' mode?
  5. Spare Tire Winch

I'm sure I saw somewhere in the OM that it is recomended that the spare tire winch is opereated periodically. Makes sense - you don't want to find it seized up when you need your spare. I really don't want to unpack all the tools to do this, the illustration looks like it's a square drive on...
  6. What Happens if Your High Voltage Battery is Dead?

The recent post by a chap whose Mav wouldn’t start after been stuck in the body shop for months waiting for parts got me thinking about what happens if the HV battery is dead:unsure:. The HV battery is charged by the ICE and that is started with the HV battery:mad:. First thought how to start...
  7. Interesting Vehicle

Spotted this picture in an article about GM's Hydrotec fuel fuel call technology. Hydrotec-based mobile power-generation systems can provide clean and quiet power for EV charging, worksites, data centers, military support and emergency power. (Photo by Steve Fecht for General Motors) I guess...
  8. Rotary Shifter not Idiot Proof (I'm an Idiot).

First mistake - swing across the street in our little Cul-de-sac to back into my driveway, turn shifter two clicks - lurch forward nearly into my neighbor's yard. Backing out of a parking space - still rolling slowly, switch to Drive, engaged Park with a jolt. Even at minimal speed stopping...
  9. Lariat Hybrid 130 MPG

Visited our daughter in the CA High Desert, got our usual 33 MPG on the 200 mile trip from AZ (used to get 38 with my Mazda 3). Anyway this was a little side trip (to the Mazda dealer!). The first 9 miles or so was in a 45 limit but a lot of traffic signals - seemed to hit every one on red...
  10. Over 6% Milage Improvement with Temperature Change

The temperature here in NW Arizona has dropped from 118° to 108° in the last few days and the milage on the hybrid improved be over 6%. 30 to 32 MPG. Looking forward to October when temps should be down to more reasonable figures and milage should be back up to the 40 to 50 MPG range!
  11. SAE Editorial Regarding Hybrids

Excerpt from a SAE Engineering magazine (Dated May 2022): Range between fill-ups (or charges) is a major selling point for hybrids. They are vastly superior to even the priciest EVs in this metric. Ford’s new $21,000 Maverick hybrid can deliver over 500 miles of driving range, beating...
  12. Enhanced Exterior Lighting?

What is 'enhanced exterior lighting' - I see fuses for it but nothing else in the owners manual? Also does anyone know what this switch is for: I'm guessing it's for the high mount cargo light but don't see anything about it in the manual. I've already taken the bulbs out as I couldn't find a...
  13. Hybrid Brake Lights

This may have been answered else where but it's been bugging me to know if the brake lights come on in regen mode - answer: no they don't. They only come on when the brake pedal is pressed and when brake hold is on. I unscrewed the CHMBL assembly to remove the cargo light bulbs (it's annoying...
  14. First Trip in the Lariat Hybrid Lux

400 mile round trip from AZ to the CA High Desert, an easy drive, all freeway except for about 15 miles each way. The Maverick completed the trip just fine, I like the leather steering wheel, I don't know it it's real but feels good. Don't like the faux leather seats though. We do this trip...
  15. Hybrid AC 'Problem'.

74° was a comfortable temperature in the EcoSport but is 'freezing' in the Maverick, I've been turning up the temps and run into a problem 84° is too warm and 82° is too cool and 83 is an odd number 🙄 . Perhaps I should switch the display to Celsius.
  16. After 574 Days We Have a Atlas Blue Lariat Hybrid

Traded in the EcoSport and picked up our new Maverick yesterday, seems a bit of an anticlimax after waiting and reading about them for so long. It's just a car - there are more important things in life! Seems OK, it's big! Just fits in the garage with no room to spare. I'll miss the EcoSport...
  17. Article: Engineering a ‘MAVERICK’ 2.5L Hybrid HF45 Transmission

An article from the SAE AE magazine, might be interesting:
  18. Steering Pull Drift Compensation (PDC)

Is anyone aware of this feature? I don't see it mentioned in the owners handbook: The EPAS system has a Pull Drift Compensation (PDC) feature to assist drivers in compensating for variation in road and driving conditions. The feature adjusts power assist offset by reducing the steering wheel...
  19. Ford Tri-fold Tonneau?

I'd like to keep my Lariat all Ford but is the Ford accessory tri-fold cover that much better than ones that are half the price, OEDRO etc.?
  20. Maverick Hybrid Circuit Wiring Diagrams?

Does anyone have a source for 2.5L Hybrid wiring diagrams, there are a couple of CDs/USB with Workshop Manual and Wiring Diagrams on ebay for less than $20 but they only cover 2.0L EcoBoost 8 speed. I'm not planning to work on it but I have no experience with Hybrids and trying to learn a bit...
