As I think about it, a jump pack with an air compressor might be the ticket. I carry one now in my in my Subaru and it has saved me and others innumerable times. To get enough cfm to do much more might not be worth it...
A truck compressor could have a separate 1 gal tank. The unit itself is the size of a motor 6x6x8. It would take 30 amps. There must be way to get power from motor gen 1 that charges the hybrid battery.
Yes.
I have a paved driveway which is a 1/4 mi long and 23% grade in one section. Most of it is over 20%. My wife's Honda Hybrid Accord does it no problem. Even if you stop in the middle, it will start just fine. The electric motor has all kinds of low end torque and it is smooth. The secret is...
Dang, I wish they would have gotten off the highway and gone over the pass instead of through the tunnel. The section they did was 6 miles at 6% for 6 minutes at 11,000 ft in altitude. The pass would have been another 800' of vertical up through a wicked set of snow covered switchbacks. That...
We are on our second Accord Hybrid. Mileage is in the 40± range. The eco mode detunes the a\c so eco mode does not get used much. It has simulated engine noise which I detest. The fuel economy is game changing for us. We drive more.
We chose it because of the eCVT and all of it's advantages. I...
I am glad folks were shocked. Traction control is a miserable way to vector power to the wheel not spinning. My Subaru is a little better than this but not much. This vehicle will never be a rock crawler. I'm sticking with 2WD and A/T tires. Maybe a hitch mounted winch. I tend to stop and walk...
I expect the Mav to be excellent for for gravel, fire roads and 3rd world tracks. Include mud flaps, light weight skid plates and A/T tires. You will have a rig capable of going places you only dreamed of.
The power split unit aka. the ECVT is really not a transmission in the sense of clutches, torque converters or different gear ratios. It is all handled by diverting power to the electric motor which has no need for cooling. It just stores all that heat in the battery to be used at another time...
I'd like to see how the hybrid does towing. No transmission to heat up. Wait there's the video of the guy in the Rav 4 going 500 mi over a pass..
Really, towing a well loaded trailer 3 miles on flat ground is not going to stress any vehicle unless . . .
Here is a list of problem...
The hybrid battery is small compared to the old hybrids. 1.1 kwh compared to the 14.4 kwh in the old Escape. This replacement battery is selling for $2,000 +/- today. In 10 years, when the Maverick's battery is out of warranty I expect the price to be under $500. Look at this thread to...
I put my money on the Hybrid. Simple, elegant design. Less moving parts. The ECVT is one robust planetary gearset. The ecoboost has turbo and a transmission which is a marvel of complexity. The Atkinson cycle engine is never stressed too hard. When it comes to resale, I think the fuel economy...
The knockouts below the bumper are problematic for lights. They can get knocked around a lot even for non aggressive drivers. Park head in against one over-sized curb and you can knock it. A plastic bumper just flexes. A fog light gets damaged.
I put them in my Subaru Forester and am on my...
