I've got both FX4 and 4K and closing in on 10,000 miles. Get both. Like you, when I need the 4K to tow my 20 foot NauticStar boat it will do it. On the road without any towing it is an excellent set-up for every day, travelling, or light off-road chores/adventures.
When you order you'll do...
I agree about making the repair pretty quickly and did mine about a week after the rock cracked my windshield. As an update, the repaired chip is hardly noticeable and holding up perfectly.
CeraKote for exterior plastic trim. I'm using it now. Applied it after cleaning the truck and using IPA. I wiped/rubbed it in as I was applying. The results have been excellent and it has withstood washes, sun, and strong rain.
Do not, however, use CeraKote on your interior plastic trim -...
Great replies and advice - thanks!
I tried IPA, 100% acetone, carb cleaner, and others that did not work to get the CeraKote off.
Lacquer Thinner by Klean Strip with a white pad (like green but milder) from SWIX that I use on my snow skis.
I can tell that there are at least three different...
Update: 6-19-22
CeraKote is a No-Go for the interior plastic. I tried it on the navy lower plastic and it left a mottled waxy looking film. Definitely not a good look and I'm trying to remove it.
So - CeraKote that worked great on exterior black plastic trim did not work on interior blue...
Thanks for the input. The rock was a pretty good smack on the windshield so I don't think it was the glass quality. I've had smaller ones smack and not leave a mark.
I-45 in Houston has plenty of rocks and debris due to road construction. One hit my Mav's windshield this month and caused a chip about dime-sized. It did not crack past that. Wish I took a pic but did not.
Checked YouTube reviews and used a Blue Star Windshield Repair Kit following all...
Go-To update 6-16-22:
I put CeraKote on all exterior plastic trim after cleaning and using IPA to prep the trim. After three weeks of super high temps in Galveston, wind blown sand, two car washes - one by BucEES and one by me the CeraKote is definitely a Go-To.
It is the best product I've...
303 protectant is a Go-To - I've been using it since new on the Active-X and interior and like how it goes on and holds up. At present I am closing in on 7K miles.
Drove 1860 miles from Galveston to Big Bend National Park and back on a road trip. Overall, averaged 25.4 mpg with the 2.0 EB AWD FX4 and 4K pkg. Speed ranged from 10 to 95mph with an average on the interstates of 80-85. The Maverick did a great job and I got to try different features like...
I'm using Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating - Walmart - and am closing in on 7K miles. I consider it to be a Go-To product and find that it does not leave a film. It's nice because I can spray it on the black trim, tires, wheels, and paint then wipe it off the painted surfaces...
I can't recall RPM at 70 or even 80. FX4 and 4K seemed like a good bargain - my boat is over 3K and even though it is not towed much, I have the capacity when I need it.
And...the truck is quick! It is a really nice set-up and if ordered again I'd do it just like the original order.
Mine has the PPF from Ford. Thickness seems appropriate for what it is. It did not cause any delay and I picked up my Mav on Dec. 15th. The edge does collect a little dirt (oxford white). So far it is just fine and I'm glad that I ordered it - would do it again.
Totally agree on the 303. Thanks.
I forgot a Go-To!
3M Scotchgard Fabric Protector on all interior carpet. I pulled the rubber mats out and gave it all two coats. So far, after four months anything that gets on the carpet around the mats has been easy to get out/off so it remains a Go-To...
My experience with Classic Ford in Galveston was very good. Ask for Taylor Whitehurst who is the sales manager. No mark-ups or added junk. Down to earth and just matter of fact about placing an order.
Now on to yesterday - on the Seawall in Galveston I passed an oxford white work Mav (XL)...
I kept looking at my Mav's tailgate and how the black trim wrapped around the truck - but didn't flow across the lower tailgate. So - I ordered 2 inch decal tape from EBay and did it myself.
To me, the look is better and Ford should just do this to all Mavs. It is a cleaner look.
What do...
A Go-To for all exterior glass is AquaPel - I've used it for years and it is an excellent product to shed water and help to keep dirt/stuff off your glass. As the water slides off it will take some of the dirt with it. Excellent Go-To product.
Go To update: Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax Pure Synthetic Polymer
After 1,000 miles with the wax, some hard rainstorms, and one month I've found that using this wax actually removes dirt from the Mav! When driving in rain the dirt mixes with the rain, and just slides off the truck. It does...
