Based on discussions with dealers I've had, the inventory is collected through an API and automatically listed in their inventory until it's actually sold and the keys are handed over. This will happen regardless if it's a special order already allocated to a customer.
This is confusing for us...
I did something similar.
My Mav is "supposed" to be built Feb 21 (ordered in July). Considering the shortages and new delays, I went out Saturday and test drove a Santa Cruz.
I couldn't justify the 40K price tag and 22MPG for something comparable to the Mav XLT Lux. I opted for a Tuscon Hybrid...
I did receive the build date email, but the rest of my situation is the same. I got a build date of Feb 8 which was pushed to Feb 21.
Logging into the tracking system on the ford website shows my order's confirmed (on August 2) but nothing else.

Yes. I am quite surprised by the 3 month bump for people. Which I failed to mention in my reply. This makes me wonder if the situation is even worse than a 3 month delay...
Same. I've checked a variety of dealerships and their hybrid 'inventory' at MSRP is listed automatically when a customer order comes in. They don't actually have the Mavs in stock.
The dealerships which do actually have Mavs on the lots are claiming they're 'used' and marking them up...
