It's a locking door but it doesn't appear to be very secure. The tool just prevents damaging the paint. Any screwdriver driver should work. The locking pin just snaps into the door.

I have not seen my maverick yet but I am familiar with air bag and seatbelt connectors. There is usually a locking device (CPA), usually orange, that must be up when you insert the plug and pushed down to lock after inserted.
A 400 watt inverter is not recommended for the 12v in the rear. The 12 v connections in the rear of the bed are rated at 20 amps and a 400 watt inverter is rated at over 30.
