Your correct on the 5k recommendation.......But, the first 2500 miles is breaking-in the engine, valves, crankshafts, camshaft,valves etc. The original oil is cleaning all this break-in "crap" in it's process. I'd strongly recommend changing it at 2500 miles simply to get the initial break-in...

From what I've researched and read, the Maverick will get lower hwy milage because city driving produce "regenterive braking power". Ie, more city driving gets better milage.
