  1. Touch screen climate controls

I've found that as long as there's a ledge to rest/register your other fingers on, the bottom row buttons on a touch screen are fine to use. Without a ledge, using a touch interface is frustrating, especially on anything other than glass smooth roads or at a standstill.
  2. Hauled my car today - towed trailer after air lift suspension installed

It must be pretty light, those are only 6 bolt wheels. Probably just need to move that furniture dolly in the bed forward a little bit, away from the tailgate for weight distribution, should be good!
  3. Tried the Pro Trailer Backup Assist...

Hooked up our utility trailer for a trip tomorrow, and decided to test out the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, never used such a thing before. On a small utility trailer (13 ft. length ball to bumper) like this, it's pretty functional, it makes it basically impossible to jack knife or get into too...
  4. Utility trailer recommendations for 23 FWD Hybrid

The easiest way is to buy a kit that converts 4 pin to 7 pin, you relocate the factory 4 pin connector, and tie the new 7 pin kit into that connector (no splicing required) and then it comes with circuit breakers and wire to add the electric brake, 12v aux, and/or reverse light wires which is...
  5. Road trip HW MPG

Same, I did almost exactly 30mpg (29.5 - 31.3) on my fuel logs on a 75mph set cruise speed ~750 miles last week, I didn't fill this last tank yet but I did 85mph and I expect to see about ~27mpg (*Edit: turned out to get 24.2 on that tank!) or so when I fill up tomorrow. Speed kills...
  6. Utility trailer recommendations for 23 FWD Hybrid

That's a nice trailer at a nice price, I've been impressed with the build quality on my Karavan, too. The payload difference is only 275lb though, 2165lb. payload on the steel 5.5x9 one, weighs 825lb empty. My 16' steel dual axle car hauler weighs 1450lb. empty by comparison. The Karavan are...
  7. Seeking best plan for a solar panel battery maintainer hookup.

In that case it would make sense to run an always on connection to the dash location, charging through a switched connection won't work of course, also pretty easy and quite functional to add such a connection too; good for dash cam parking monitoring and many other tasks including a solar...
  8. Seeking best plan for a solar panel battery maintainer hookup.

I didn't check this truck yet specifically, but I checked the manual and it recommended not leaving things plugged into the 12v socket overnight, which made me think it was always hot which is the norm for pretty much every vehicle I've had. There are lots of solar chargers that use the...
  9. Seeking best plan for a solar panel battery maintainer hookup.

Solar maintainer is a good idea for any vehicle that sits any length of time outside, all lead acid batteries benefit from regular float charging. While the 25's shouldn't have the parasitic drain issue it's a good addition regardless. As far as I know, a Noco Genius doesn't have a solar...
  10. Utility trailer recommendations for 23 FWD Hybrid

I really come out the opposite on trailer frame construction, I do not like aluminum frame trailers - they're lighter, but the failure modes are usually unexpected fractures from cyclical loading stress. As long as it's built well they hold up, but I'm sketched out by them after seeing some of...
  11. Utility trailer recommendations for 23 FWD Hybrid

I've hauled bikes, quads, farm equipment, tool chests/roll off boxes, lumber, pallets, firewood, you name it. It's been at its load rating many times now. The ramp has been good, I often travel without it and it's easy to take off - I made a plywood tailgate that I use that's the same height...
  12. Utility trailer recommendations for 23 FWD Hybrid

At the time it cost about $250 to add the brakes. The tires on the trailer have done well on high speed operation, they are radials rated for 81 MPH, no trouble, just keep them at max pressure to keep them cool. The trailer has EZ-lube axles so keeping the grease fresh is a simple job, too.
  13. Utility trailer recommendations for 23 FWD Hybrid

I have the 5.5x9 Karavan, I put brakes on it and have towed it thousands of miles on the interstate - it's the best single axle small utility trailer I've owned to date. I put a tongue box on it for the chocks, jacks, and other accessories and mounted a matching spare tire up there. A little...
  14. Adaptive cruise control rant

I never had the slow down before passing problem that some people get with ACC, I just apply the accelerator as I am approaching someone going slower and pass, or if the passing lane conditions are clogged, just let it follow until the left lane(s) are sufficiently cleared out of idiots and then...
  15. Science not speculation - engine break in

They forgot to present the wear data between higher levels of fine circulating wear metals and lower levels of circulating wear metals, the science part of the video is missing. Oil analysis shows you how much is in the oil, but that's not actionable information until you prove with a teardown...
  16. 2025 Headlight mod?

Unfortunately I haven't compared the two side by side, but the LED projectors on the Lariat anyway are pretty fantastic both low and high beam imo - the only thing I wish they'd add is auto leveling with a knob for beam adjustment like my Mitsu had, very handy for towing or heavy payload...
  17. Recently joined the Shadow Black club

Out of all the choices that were available on the dealer lot, Shadow Black was my favorite; it was also the only color and only vehicle in inventory in this trim. I like the black, I just don't like washing the black quite so much.
  18. Adaptive cruise control rant

I just did about 1000 miles with the ACC system, but I kept the Predictive Speed Assist turned off in the Driver Assistance Menu which is what does the dynamic adaptation to speed signs and road geometry; I prefer to control those speed adjustments manually.
  19. Max trailer load. Need to install brakes on homemade trailer

I bought a Karavan 5x9 utility trailer from Tractor Supply last year, it's a 4,000+ lb. trailer design that is stamped 2,990lbs. from the factory to squeak in just under the technicial legal GVWR to sell it without brakes. I made one trip without brakes to bring the trailer home, and put 10"...
  20. Ford Pass Rewards Took 3 Months...

I took just over a week for them to show up on our account after buying on May 20th. We bought a bedrug for $36 with our points and the 20% discount, should be shipped out soon hopefully!
