  1. Maverick Raptor! How We Imagine It

I didn't mean to imply the Maverick needed a solid rear axle, I just thought the render looked like it had one with a low hanging rear differential. For what I do, I'm totally satisfied without solid axles. That being said, I don't think we're getting a Samurai successor here. The Samurai was...
  2. Maverick Raptor! How We Imagine It

Also, does that Maverick have a solid rear axle? :)
  3. Maverick Raptor! How We Imagine It

I have never loved the Raptor grill, but overall I think it looks great and would be very interested if they were to make a version of the Maverick like this.
  4. Spotted: Maverick vs Ranger size comparison

The four "future vehicles" on Ford's website include one that is supposed to be out already (the Bronco) and three versions of existing vehicles. Ford isn't going to put something on its website without even an official picture, much less any specs at all.
  5. Why do you want a Maverick?

Really what I want is a reasonably efficient small van that has gotten the "Outback" treatment to improve its performance on rocky or sandy dirt roads. Since no one seems to be building one, the Maverick seems like it might be the best compromise. I don't necessarily NEED a truck bed, but most...
  6. Consensus On Maverick Bed Dimensions / Length?

Boy do I feel you on plywood prices. I love working with decent plywood and just bought a house. I had basically been using $50 per sheet for mental shorthand for plywood forever than got hit with a cost estimate whammy when I checked current prices. I have some modified Ikea bookshelves as they...
  7. Features : Need/Want/Don't

I'm not sure about the Escape, but the plug in hybrids often have large enough batteries to qualify for tax rebates on electric vehicles. If you can get 7500 back on your taxes, a 7765 premium seems pretty manageable.
  8. AWD Nice but Not Necessary in Winter

I drove a Honda Fit/Transit Connect with snow tires from CT/MA to VT almost every weekend for years. I only ever had problems in parking lots that had melted out a bit since I parked the car. I remember one driveway I couldn't get up, but I think that was pre snow tires. That being said, if you...
  9. More Maverick spy shots

Looking at the roof, it seems possible that the mirrors are body color, but they body is black. The only thing I don't love from all the spyshots emerging is how low the front end seems to sit, but we'll see, it might just be an optical illusion from the rear end sitting higher.
  10. Consensus On Maverick Bed Dimensions / Length?

I'd guess 18 inches. The Ranger's bed height is 20.8in.
  11. Features : Need/Want/Don't

Ha goodness gracious, do all of your live in Nome, Alaska? Looking up places where people I know live that I consider REALLY cold (St. Paul, Minnesota; Bangor, Maine, etc.), most of them have never hit -40. So while I agree that at -40, I'd want a heated steering wheel, I'm not sure that it...
  12. Consensus On Maverick Bed Dimensions / Length?

52-54 in seems extremely likely from the pictures we've seen. I'd guess 54 just so they can say 4.5 ft bed and keep it consistent with the short beds being: Maverick: 4.5 ft, Ranger: 5 ft, F150: 5.5 ft.
  13. Maverick Raptor render

I doubt a Maverick Raptor will happen. I think Ford would feel like it would dilute the Raptor brand. On the other hand, I would LOVE for there to be basically a dirt road rally version. Take advantage of where the Macerick will have a comparative advantage in terms of CoG, add appropriate...
  14. Cyber Orange Maverick prototype spotted

I'm almost the opposite. I assume that I'll be forced to buy a higher trim to get a "Badlands" style softroad package, but I like the contrast on the Maverick so I wish that the black handles were on the high trims too. Though I'll be happy if I can just add whatever offroad/towing options are...
  15. Fitting 33’s on a Maverick

In an interview, a Bronco Sport engineer said that 30.5 tires would fit without any lift, but 31s wouldn't. So I agree with ZipperKid that 30s would likely be the functional limit without modifications.
  16. Ford Maverick Full Uncovered Look @ Side & Rear 3/4 in Area 51 color!

I like it. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether I think it mostly looks good in contrast to the black windows/top of the Bronco Sport, and whether it would be too flat on the much larger body of the Maverick. I think I'd actually like the non-body color black handles more if I had a vehicle...
  17. Maverick competitors: What will you be cross-shopping?

Heh, I love the Wolf, own a Transit Connect and only recently sold my first gen Honda Fit. I see we both have a soft sport for utilitarian vehicles.
  18. Two Door Single Cab

I just don't think it would end up working that way. The savings is basically in rear seats/doors/safety equipment, which isn't nothing, but it's not a huge portion of vehicle construction costs. On the other hand, you have all the design and tooling costs, plus running a separate production...
  19. Two Door Single Cab

Despite what reading enthusiast forums would lead you to believe, I just don't think that the market is there. Last year, crew cabs made up 83% of truck sales and single cabs made up 3%. 3! And the article suggests that includes fleet sales. In Canda, the proportion was even lower (88% to 1.5%)...
  20. Base Maverick XL trim spotted again

The only vehicle that comes to mind for me is the Ridgeline. I did imagine that all the new crop of unibody trucks might get standard tow hitches (if just for ease of manufacture), but if the Santa Cruz isn't going to be able to tow that much, an add on might not add much to the assembly...
