I'm certainly no scientist, so I'll be happy to stipulate that under certain conditions hills may work to our advantage. In fact, there is a stretch of road along my daily commute that probably qualifies. I've noticed that I often get more electric travel along it, and on the flat terrain that...
Accelerating too slowly will ding your mileage almost as much as doing it too fast. Best practice is to get up to speed fairly quickly, then let off the throttle to drop it into electric mode. I keep up with traffic just fine, and still get 43-45 mpg.
Exactly right. It never ceases to amaze me how many people here seem to think that hilly terrain improves their hybrid's gas mileage. No, it does not. Simple physics tells us that you always expend more energy going uphill than you can possibly recover on the way down.
They sure went on about that, didn't they? Ditto the FITS stuff! Whatever. 🙄
Don't get me wrong though...I love the hell out everything else about this truck. 💗
Personally, I don't like slippery mode. In particular, the heavy brake feel turns me off. But also the livelier throttle response in normal mode suits me better. I do use it for actual slippery conditions, though. You don't want touchy brakes on wet or icy roads.
However, I'm sure slippery...
I had the software update done, and it totally eliminated the issue on mine. But then, the grabby thing happened only occasionally for me anyway...and NEVER in reverse. Pretty sure it's only the friction brakes in play when backing up.
It depends on your driving habits actually. Shortly after I got my Maverick, I had to take it in for a transit related paint repair, and drove a Ford Edge loaner for a week. Same engine and transmission as the Eco boost Maverick. I like to take things nice and easy behind the wheel, and when...
Seemple for you...deeficult for meee! 😜
Couldn't resist, sorry.
If you've got a head for mechanical contrivances it may be simple, but for us simpletons, it's complicated as all hell!
That's a standard CVT you're thinking of. The eCVT is totally gear driven, and has no cones or belts. However....it is an even tougher concept to wrap one's head around. And believe me, I've tried! 😉
Sport mode gives you quicker throttle response in addition to the fake shifting, so there definitely is a more lively "feel" when you're going relatively easy on it. But I'd bet good money that the fake shifting actually hampers performance when you're hitting it hard. All that tinkering with...
The shifting IS simulated, but it's not sound effects. The engine is basically running at all times when the engine is under throttle in sport mode, and the rpms vary to produce the shifting effect. Why anyone would want that is another question. Don't ask me...I haven't got a clue. 😉
What I...
Oddly enough, in my two years of ownership and countless interactions, the only negativity towards the Maverick I've been witness to...has been in this forum. 😉
Same experience here. I always get far better highway mileage than advertised. I do stick pretty close to the speed limits, though. Ford and the EPA must have been testing these things at 80+ MPH to get that 33 figure.
If they were all like that, I would agree with you. But they are not. Mine has been completely rattle free and trouble free for two years now. ALL automobile manufacturers produce the odd lemon at ALL price points. To draw broad conclusions based on a few bad examples is unwarranted.
12500 miles on my hybrid. The tires are wearing only slightly....and very evenly. Don't take anybody else's word for it...buy a tread wear gauge and determine for yourself when they need replacing.
I'm with you 100%. My Maverick is my absolute favorite vehicle out of all of the 14 I have owned over forty some years. Satisfied in every way!
And I for one, LOVE the heated seats....and the heated steering wheel is unreal. I never knew what I was missing. And that goes double for the hybrid...
I brought mine home in January 2022. And two years, 12k miles, and one flawless ownership experience later, I can say without the slightest hesitation that I would cheerfully buy another one in a heartbeat should the need arise. 😊
