Ok, I stand corrected. After doing some research on this, defaulting back to the "normal mode", that the vehicle was EPA tested in, is not required by law. However, if the manufacturer allows the vehicle to retain the setting of a less efficient mode, like "sport mode", the vehicle will have...
This is not a bug, it is a feature. And I’m sure their legal dept is well aware of all of its ramifications.
Federal law requires vehicles to default back to the settings that were used for EPA testing, at each startup.
That way the dumb masses don’t go driving around in the most fuel...
People in the US would be up in arms over a vehicle owners tax because it would be unfair to many.
For example, if you have a small car hauling business using a full sized pickup to tow, you’re going to be using lots of fuel and paying lots of fuel tax….. and you’ll be causing lots of wear to...
That’s a great point! I wonder how Ford would square that away when trying to deny your warranty claim for towing the same trailer that they used in their photo shoot?
The flip side is that if your engine/trans/differential failed and you told the dealer that you had been regularly towing a trailer with 65 ft^2 frontal area at 65 mph, do think they would try to deny your warranty claim for not following the recommended maximums in the towing guide? I’m betting...
Airstream says that when they compared their best 28 foot trailer wit the competition’s worst 35 foot box trailer, they found that the airstream was 25% more aerodynamically efficient.
Completely unfair test and wildly optimistic, but 25% reduction. So the 16 ft airstream is still 50 square...
That’s exactly my point. The 2k tow package will be nearly maxed out on weight and frontal area with a popup trailer, but it is still within their recommendations.
But then you step up to the optional 4k towing package and the towing weight goes up by 100%, but they only increase the...
I’d love to see a Maverick get 56 in the city and 46 on the highway. Because we all know it ain’t getting that. Hell, I couldn’t even get that in my Prius. And they are EPA rated 10 mpg higher in the city and 17 mpg higher on the freeway than what a Maverick is.
The one place you’re breaking the rules is the frontal area. I couldn’t find published frontal area number for the Bambi, but I see it’s 6’3” tall inside, so let’s say 7.0 feet when you include box frame, floor and ceiling. It’s 8.0 feet wide, so 63 square feet. Then add a couple extra feet for...
I haven’t tried this in the Maverick, but I use this in my Tesla all the time, “Hey Siri, call the Ford dealership in Anacortes, WA”. I just tried it at my desk at work and Siri says “calling frontier ford 800-896-5267”. Should do the same thing in the Maverick.
A trailer by itself is not the gvwr, that is the empty weight.
And deciding if a trailer needs brakes based on its empty weight would not be safe.
This particular trailer is 2,210 lbs empty and 7,500 gvwr.
Not sure what phone you’re using, but iPhone has a built in GPS receiver, so you don’t need cell service.
I use onX off-road. There’s a button to download map for offline use.
More importantly than for my Maverick, I use it on my mountain bike.
Packing an extra gps device would be a hassle...
Garmin GPS….. people still use those in cars? I haven’t seen anyone with one in 15 or so years. Everyone just uses their phone.
USB music stick…. People still use those in cars? Streaming services made it so much cheaper and more convenient that everyone just uses their phone to stream music.
Yes going wider increases rolling resistance. It also increases wind resistance. And the increased weight increases the moment of inertia, which means it takes more energy to accelerate or decelerate their rotational speed, which also means lower mpg and increased brake wear.
Wider tires gives...
When I was in highschool in the late 80's, my best friends had a souped up 510 sedan. I never understood the appeal of a 4 cylinder sedan. I did the American thing and got a used 5.0 fox body mustang and cammed it. :-)
