If you are talking about the $100 dollar option, that is just a receiver hitch and 4 pin connector. It doesn't alter the suspension or power train in any way. Strictly a bolt on option.

You are exactly right. There is a way to make a pickup more fuel efficient and Ford was thoughtful enough to offer it as standard equipment.

Aerodynamics are a huge factor in fuel mileage. To reduce the drag of a pickup you have to turn it into something that isn't a pickup.
