@JimParker256 and @GPSMan, thank you for the thoughtful input, seriously. Though I don’t come to the same conclusion, I appreciate the good discussion. :)
One note regarding tongue weight, I believe a WDH actually reduces the tongue weight as felt by the truck. The fact that a truck squats less...
From the little I’ve seen on the channel, the guy does regular reviews/updates, often from a first-person GoPro point of view. My guess is he was filming for something else already and that this footage was a surprise/bonus. I’m inclined to believe it. :)
Nicely done. I have an Area 51 XL that I’m going to be upgrading as well. The tie-downs are surprisingly expensive but probably worth it. I plan to do the bed cubbies as well. :)
Correct. According to Ford, there is no increase in tow capability with a WDH for the Maverick. What is interesting is on page 45 of the 2023 guide you mentioned. For the Transit, Ford says “Use Not Recommended”. Clearly they know how to say such a thing, but do not say it for the Maverick...
Most hitches likely will not come with any wiring, but the wiring can be purchased separately. I recommend you go to etrailer.com and set the Maverick as your vehicle. They should have some good options for both hitch and wiring.
Thanks for the link. I see the pages but do not see anything suggesting no WDH on a Maverick.
I do see that there is no increase to the rating on a Maverick in the WDH column, but that is not the same as “don’t do this”. Am I missing something?
I’ve actually used a WDH on my Maverick at it worked great. I would do so again for any load over ~3,000lbs.
For reference, I repositioned our large travel trailer across town. Note that I actively discourage anyone from doing this on a “real” trip. With a trailer this size, there is genuine...
A: Where is this consensus and what are the limits to it?
B: The Maverick is not an “ordinary” unibody vehicle. Put another way, there is a big difference between a Camry and a Maverick, yet they are both built with unibody methods.
C: As per a user above, Ford’s own towing guides make no...
The Tacoma tow rating (6,400lbs?) is not actually useful for comparison or in reality. The payload rating becomes the dominant factor, and the Tacoma loses to the Maverick substantially here. In fact, they Maverick may be able to tow MORE than the Taco in some cases.
For example: load up four...
I’m about to pull the trigger on ordering a Rackit. The weight of the aluminum is attractive, but it has an extra support bar in the middle of the bed that is not quick to remove. The price through my local dealer is identical. Will update as things change.
Well put. I’m encouraged to see such a wide range of modifications and ideas for the Maverick, even when I would not personally do them to my truck. It makes the forum better. Thanks for posting. :)
