Hmmmm.
I've been planning to have mine fitted with this Cap all along. But this feedback has made me re-think that decision. I still really like the idea of a Cap, and think this one looks great. It was designed to complement the Maverick's lines very well. However, the rearward visibility issue...
Oh please.
We're not dealing with the Politburo in this process..."Be humble! And be grateful that we permit you to get on the waiting list!"
"Your Lada will be ready in 6-years.
It will be red."
Insofar as the SupplyChain problem goes, my gut tells me that it is contrived.
There is only one other time I can think of when this country had such systemic shortages...during WWII.
No, somebody wants it to be this way.
To what end I can't even imagine.
But I'm sure it won't be good.
'Been a loyal Ford owner, many times over, since 1972; all of them purchased under Employee Purchase Programs. So the connection with FoMoCo runs very deep.
'Ordered a 2021 Bronco (Z-Plan) in February, made a sizable deposit. No meaningful progress had been made toward production of said Bronco...
Speaking of refrigerators, I have a phenomenal story about one for you.
My folks were just recently married, bought one of the very first refrigerators available post-WWII; it was a General Electric model-1 (I kid you not!). The year was 1947. Not a spec of plastic on the thing, LOL.

I read your reply with interest. The rebuttal arguments you've made are certainly worth consideration...yet I remain unmoved, other than to concede to your point that it isn't the devices which are the menace, but the users. I've seen (and personally experienced) too many instances whereby...
Very good point about Ejection.
I'd personally like to see technology which would incapacitate mobile phones whenever a vehicle is in-gear. They're a menace.
Two things to keep in mind:
- the laws of physics; a 6000# mass will always win-out in a collision with a 3000# mass, no matter how many airbags/safety harnesses/crumple zones are designed into the littler one.
- in 1961, gasoline was probably 20-cents per gallon tops.
If you think cars have gotten "so huge", stand next to a '61 Cadillac.
Monstrous the Whale.
You could probably fit a couple of Civics in its TRUNK, lol.
I think we're mostly in agreement on all of this. And let's not ignore the 900-lb gorilla : computerization has fundamentally revolutionized everything about how our vehicles work.
We'll be in BIG trouble when the bad guys set off that EMP device!
I recently read somewhere that Ford IS developing just such a variation... using BroncoSport components. There's only one unsurmountable factor which limits the Mav's off-road capabilities: the long wheelbase.
I think I get your drift.
But in reality, starting in the early seventies, two factors comprised the catalysts for the dramatic changes in the automobile industry:
1) the onset of heavy government regulation (emissions and safety standards).
2) the rise of high-quality, Japanese imports.

I've noticed that several of the exterior colors have "multiple personalities"; most notably both the 'Cactus' and 'Carbonized' greys, 'AltoBlue', and 'RedPepper'... each can look vastly different depending on the lighting.
CR-V's are the ultimate 'Chick-Car'...err, 'Appliance'.
The Rom-Com of motor vehicles.
If you doubt me, just pay attention to who you mostly see driving them.
'Not saying they're bad, only that they appeal to a certain demographic.
It's interesting therefore that roughly 25% of Maverick buyers...
Easily, the thing I like least is the goofy shift-dial thingy. I prefer a proper shifter. Hopefully, I'll get used to it.
My second least-liked feature is all the hard plastic around the interior.
I understand why it's there (cost-cutting), but would have thought that at least in higher-trim...
The problem, at least in my view, is that you'd never be able to get a decent 'match' to the AltoBlue for the brake calipers. And any other type of blue on them would just clash.
Better to go with a totally different, contrasting color.
I'd love to see a Mav fitted-up with chrome-reverse wheels...
