Hi matt123. I'm a little late to the party, but may have relevant info.
I also had a lemon and got fast & financially favorable resolution without a lawyer. Got my check in 42 days from first mech failure.
Ford participates in the arbitration procedure via the BBB. It's called auto line.
Yes, the corporate customer 'service' people are useless. They exist to be a roadblock.
Things really got rolling when I mailed Ford the "last chance letter".
Here's the thread where I chronicled the experience.
I wish you luck on this!

Did you go through the BBB arbitration? I spoke to my state's AG and they recomended I file through them. To me, if the BBB is getting business from Ford there seems to be so disincinteve to rule against them.

Ford is supposed to let me knwo by the end of the week if it is approved. If not, still think I am just going to get a lawyer since I have good backup and it will be free to me.

Yes, I used the BBB. In the past, a bunch of companies agreed to use BBB for arbitration. Ford was one of them. How binding is it in reality? Not sure, but I know it worked for me.

Can't hurt to get a lawyer. I talked to someone in MI's AG office and they didn't specifically say I ought to get one, and yes, as part of the lemon law, Ford would pay their fees. I did call one, though, for a free consultation (to get the most out of this call, have ALL your info in front of you, with a question list!).

When I called them, I had already sent Ford the "last chance letter" and the lawyer told me: [paraphrasing here...]"You're already off and running, and you're doing exactly what we would be doing here in the office. Let it play out and if it goes where you want, then you're all set."

One tip she gave me that just came back to mind is that if you do go it alone, inside the BBB site, there's a choice about how to communicate with Ford. She said to select "by email only". If you select "by phone" or whatever other option, they will use it to really prolong the process.

Getting a lawyer is not bad advice. I just felt like I was up for the challenge and wanted to see if I could do it. Looking back, my feeling is that the "last chance letter" was the real motivator for them. When the Ford attorney posted their response in the BBB portal, it was short and sweet: {paraphrasing from memory again] "It appears that your claim meets the requirements of the lemon law." Then I got the call from the claims person at Ford (she was great, btw) and got the check a couple days later

One more thing. I also remember this part from before I realized the Ford customer service thing is a big sham. The rep told me they'd let me know by such and such a day if Ford approved my fix. Of course, the rep called on that day and said "So sorry, you were denied". That bogus procedure was, I'm sure, there simply to draw things out in the hopes that you'd just go away.
