Howdy folks. Have had my 2024 Maverick XL Hybrid for two weeks, 741 miles driven so far. So closing in on the recommended 1,000 mile engine break in.

Last one was a 2003 Toyota Tacoma with 245,000 miles on it. Had to retire it, physically unable to perform with a $5,000 repair estimate and no guarantee of mitigation.

Had a hard time finding dealers within 100 miles with hybrid option in stock. Lucked out with the outlet nearest to my location. A special order 2024 Maverick XL hybrid with bed cover, driver side keypad, sprayed in bed liner and full size spare was available. The original buyer backed out.

I am not going to do anything major like towing a boat or an RV. Never did with the Taco, so why start now lol.

This is my first hybrid, so my understanding is that MPG will decrease with increase in speed, so easy does it on the highway.

I like all the high tech features, but some take getting used to. The Brake Coach is coolio. The Driver Alert is kind of annoying, but may offer sage advice under the right circumstance. Collision Alert has already saved my butt. I was passing by a street vendor and the customer, for some reason, suddenly stepped into the path of my Mav. If driving my old Taco, I would have hit that guy...

Friends, neighbors and the ex have said positivie things about my 2024 Mav. Construction is solid, the doors go thunk when they are closed. Still reaching for ye olde column shift, not fully acclimated to the knob shift yet. Ford Pass is interesting, but worried about getting hacked. The truck system keeps bugging me about connecting to wifi and updating software, so I will comply. Soon. Have not tried connecting my phone and using Android Auto/Apple Car Play yet.

Yup, I am a newbie. Thanks for your help Maverick Truck Club colleagues.

Is there a spare tire lock available?

I've found it's more about being easy on the brakes and throttle. I've managed several 30-mile drives in the 50mpg range. It's kind of a game to me now to get the best mileage without slowing anyone down.

I think like you, most of us that bought a hybrid, never had one before, it's fun playing the "get the highest mileage game" with all the technogy we never had . These are great trucks, we have to learn how to best drive them.

Welcome!

City driving will give you the best mileage because the truck will use electric mode much of the time. Highway, not so much. Expect mid-40s or better City & mid 30s or better Highway. YMMV

To learn how to get the best non-Highway mileage, the brake coach does help. But the EV Coach screen is even more helpful. Enable it in the instrument cluster/steering wheel Menu. With the EV Coach visible in the cluster, try to keep the truck in (Green) Charging or (Blue) Electric mode. The (White) Hybrid mode is least efficient. Learning to feather the go pedal to coax the truck to go back into Electric mode will yield the highest mileage. This is called Pulse & Glide. Google has more info on this driving method. If there are cars behind you, it is not recommended, due to speed variations.

You can enable both EV Coach & Brake Coach. The Brake Coach will only display when you come to a full stop.

I have found that Slippery drive mode gives me the best non-Highway mileage and slightly better than Eco. The drive mode button is on the console and is the closest button to the driver. The button closest to the passenger seat is the Auto Hold, which lets you take your foot off the brake at red lights.

Using either heat or the electric a/c will decrease mileage a bit. But still excellent!

Whichever spare it came with its actually a bit difficult to steal without using the wrench the vehicle comes with to lower it. Might be able to get a grinder in there if you really wanted to.
