I really like the low profile LEER bed cap, but $4k is too pricey!

There are no cheap caps at this time , unless you want a canvas one. I paid $4200 for an ARE MX w/ light, folding front slider, and instal. I love it; but cannot really justify what I paid. But this Mav is likely my last vehicle, so what the heck.

Yeah, if you don't need the security of a hard shell, Flated or Softtopper are cheaper and have the benefit of easy removal for hauling that fridge everyone thinks all trucks must do.

How easy is the ARE to remove and replace? I’ve been eyeing that as well. I like that you can custom build.

Check pricing on Jeraco caps. I believe they are less expensive than ARE and the quality is comparable. We used to be a dealer for them before I sold my shop.

I had the same issue and ultimately couldn't justify ~15-18% of the whole truck's cost just for a cap.

Years ago when I looked at caps anything over $1,500 from any manufacturer was well into commercial. A cap for a Mazda I was looking at was something around $750, matched paint. Awhile after that I was looking at them for a Toyota and it was around $1,200.

At first I thought there was a pricing error on the configurator for them when I was building my truck. Nope!

They have a cab high for the Maverick. They do not list pricing and instead follow the horrible practice of wanting you to give them your complete address and phone number just to get a quote.

These companies need to just list their MSRP on their website and stop this nonsense. Jeraco isn't the first company I have seen do this.

I had an A.R.E MX (mid-rise) and sold it to a fellow MTC member. I had it bolted to my Maverick, but I also had the clamps from the original installation. It was easy for me to remove the bolts, unplug the lights, and for two people to take it off.

I now have an A.R.E. V (cab-high) shell and have it bolted to my Maverick. I want them bolted to give me a sense of security when mounting stuff on the Yakima racks.

By the way, the cost of the MX was $3940 which includes $400 for OTR. The V was $3200 and was painted to match.

PIcture with the MX

Picture with the V (and other modifications - still the same truck).

It weighs about 135 lbs, so 2 strong people could likely remove the cap; but there are electrical connections for the brake light and for the optional internal light; so I don't know if those connections have a quick release. As I recall instal was about $235.

Both look pretty nice. How did that affect your mileage?

Have not seen much of a difference. But for the first 2 months w/o the cap I did not use heat or a/c. Since the cap was purchased I have used a heater; and now the a/c. So it is really difficult to tell. Back in the day when I had a Nissan truck and added an aluminum shell; there was no change. It was likely the increased aerodynamics off set the effects of increased wt.
