Hey guys. I know I'm a bit late to the party but I recently finished installing my Akro Designs USB Cubby Insert. Coupled that with my QuadLock Vent Mount with the upgraded MAG Wireless Charging Head. Very clean and simple installation. I am a cable management nut so being able to hide all of the wires was a big bonus. Plus it frees up one of the lower console USB ports and adds an extra up top for my ipad when I get around to purchasing a Bulletpoint Solutions Rubigrid Mount. A bit of an investment if you're not already a QuadLock user but any vent style mount will work. Overall I couldn't be happier with the outcome!

how do you run the wiring?
He walks you through it in this video. I ended up popping the dash tray off and removing the infotainment screen since I couldn’t get a good angle with the short drill bit I had. The AC duct is just behind the cubby so have to be somewhat careful. Drilling one hole and running a wire down to the fuse box in the passenger foot well with a fuse tape. Really easy and everything is included in the kit.

Nice. I took a slightly easier approach with a ram mount and just ran the USB cable behind the dash and drilled a hole just above the existing USB ports.

My setup

But I really like this setup. I tried a wireless setup in my Tacoma and it was awful. The magnets weren't strong enough and the phone had to be positioned in just the right spot every time. I just use a small metal plate on the back of my case now. Scosche makes good ones, but you can buy universal plates too.

I like the security of the clip in setup though. All the exterior grabber style mounts I have tried are awful.

Vent mounts are always a bit loose from my experience but I have had zero issues with this one. Especially with the insert which has fixed "vents" to grab onto. Was able to crank it down pretty damn hard and there is absolutely ZERO movement. As for the mag stuff. I have seen some bad attempts in my friends and family's vehicles but they were typically the cheap amazon stuff. The Quadlock MAG stuff is more than enough for anything someone will be able to throw at it with the Maverick until the prerunner dude finishes his build hah. They have a twist on locking mount with or without wireless charging for rougher conditions. I dove into the QuadLock world a few years ago and have been insanely impressed with the quality and the amount of mounting options as well as accessories. While I was waiting for my insert to come I was using a Quadlock 360 Kit with the Flexible Adhesive Base and Dual Pivot Arm with the MAG charger in the cubby and it rock solid. I have specific mounts for my bike, kayak, golf push cart, desk, and a couple other universal ones. Wherever I go I just plop it on the mount and forget about it. Always charged and for those longer trips I have the mag battery pack. Couldn't recommend them more! Love your build btw! CG was honestly my number one choice but I didn't have time to wait for an order so I went searching a 1000 mile radius until I found one that someone passed up on. Red is my favorite color and my second choice so worked just fine hah.

I saw the Akro solutions and I still am confused. Maybe you know since you just did this. It doesn’t look like any of the cubby inserts listed on his site come with the usb kit anymore. I also can’t find that he sells it separately. Did yours come as a kit or did you roll your own? If you did roll your own, lin to the sub mode you used?

Yeah looking at his site and I do not see the option I purchased anymore. I ordered the " Ford Maverick Cubby Mount | Phone Mounting & USB Charging" option. I did have some issues with the shipping. Label was created the day after I ordered but the tracking never updated. Was told he had issues with the labels and had resolved them. Ended up messaging on etsy and he said he ran out of a few components and had to order them. I would reach out to him on Etsy or direct email him [email protected]. Took a little while for him to respond when I tried contacting him. Awesome product though so hopefully he doesn't discontinue it. There have been several iterations so could just a new version in the works.

I have one, but did the built in ball mount. It matches my ESR MagSafe charger/mount, and it’s been issue free for 2 months.

I need to do the power install, but I’m probably waiting for a nice spring day to fight that fight :).

I don't need any more ports either. But if I did, I'd be proud of myself if I could do a slick install like IronDan's.
