I just recently did the Zep Taillight mod on my Maverick. They look amazing, however the reverse light output is AWFUL! Before doing this mod I researched on the forum and everyone said that the light output was not affected, or it was minimal. In my experience that could not be further from the truth. The normal red brake lights are not affected much, but if you install LED lights they it's even bright then stock. However, the Reverse Lights, even with LED Lights, lost about 90% of use. Truthfully its like not having reverse lights at all. How is no one talking about this? Am I missing something?

I'm going to be remedying the situation by installing a Trailer Hitch Mount Reverse Light so I can see once again.

Could always just put the OEM lights back in, no?

Or get some Lasfits that looks like you've harnessed the sun...
Sadly not, whenever you ZEP your taillights it is a permanent thing unlike tint. As for getting even brighter LED's I guess I'm going to see what I can do...

I bought D15 lighting from Amazon for $23. They are 3600 lumens and light up everything. They are more of a projector beam style bulb, which is what you need since you removed the chrome. Would try those out first

I found the ones you mentioned on Amazon, I'll be trying those as a last ditch effort. I'm just shocked that I couldn't find a thread about this already. Thanks for the recommendation.

Yes I upgraded the Brake Lights to LED's. I think those are plenty bright, just reverse lights perform like a joke right now. If I can figure out how to make the reverse lights perform at lease back to stock level I would recommend everyone to ZEP there taillights because they look great.

LC48 I'd love to hear what LED Reverse Bulbs you have in your Zep Taillights. I installed the Lastfit LED Reverse Lights in mine and they do absolutely nothing in terms of throwing light on the ground.

Been a minute, I would have to pull one to tell you. I did the reverse lights well before I zepped `em, found the factory backup lights to be too weak, and that would have been in early November `21...... thinking Alla brand maybe? Don't go crazy adding lights back there just yet, not all LED`s are created equal, maybe others will chime in with what they have found to be the brightest reverse lights...and it may not be Lasfits....

I purchased the other LED`s and had them on hand before stripping the chrome cuz I knew the light output would drop. My tails, turns and reverses are at least as bright as stock with ugly chrome

My order history says Alla;

Alla reverse lights
I appreciate you looking that up for me. I agree the last thing I want to do is adding more reverse lights to the back of the truck and making it look bad. I'll give your lights a try first.

@bonano7 - Or the ones recommended by @Kizyle above, his spec at a higher lumen. I think the projector style is the critical piece

Whoever told you that removing the chrome would not reduce the light output is just plain stupid. Why on earth did you believe them over the numerous other people who said don't do it. Give your head a shake. BTW, you think that the red lights are not affected, but I very much doubt that as the reflectors that you destroyed put out maybe 90% of the total light. Putting in new US$337 taillights in to repair the damage is probably not an option, so maybe sell the vehicle to someone else who thinks that the dark light look is cool before it gets rear-ended or your insurance company finds out that you seriously impaired a key safety item.
