While Florida dealers were telling me I could still order a 2022 Maverick Hybrid as late as April (which I knew to be a lie), Steve Miller at Van Bortel Ford told me the truth: there was no way I could order a 2022 model. But he did tell me that I could be the first on the dealership's list for a 2023, and he'd let me know as soon as pricing became available. Whatever the price was, he said he'd sell it to me at invoice, which is what they charge EVERY customer for ordering a new Maverick: this was not some mistake or one-time gimmick. The only additional charges were $175.00 dealer fee and $12.50 temporary tag. No other costs, unless I added something. (I live in FL and Van Bortel is in NY, so I paid no sales tax or DMV fees until I got back to FL.)
The truck finally arrived, exactly as ordered. I had asked in advance that they not install the front license plate bracket, as it's not needed in FL. Well, they're so used to putting them on that it did get installed. He apologized profusely and- without me asking- did not charge me for the hood deflector that I had ordered along with a bedliner and tonneau cover. Otherwise the truck was perfect, inside and out. They went over every new feature I was not familiar with before I left, which was a huge help. My dealership experience could not have been any better.
When I compared what I paid Van Bortel vs. the dealers in Florida, it paid for the flight north and the drive back, with money left over. But I gotta tell you: even if THE PRICE HAD BEEN THE SAME, I still would have gone to Van Bortel to get this vehicle. The ethical and respectful way I was treated should be a model to every other Ford dealer in the United States. Truly, this is the way to buy a new vehicle (they also sell Subaru and Chevrolet).
