I will try to put my plight in chronological order. I ordered my truck Nov 8, 2021. I agreed to price and the sales man told they would let me know when the truck was delivered. After a few months, I called a couple of times to see if there was any news. Left messages for them to call me. Nearly a year later, in Sept 2022 I received an e-mail from the sales man that the order banks were open and I should come in and place my order. Honestly, I thought that was already done, but I went in and questioned him. He checked and said all was good and the truck would be built on Nov 25, 2022. Along about mid dec or so, I called him again to see when to expect delivery but my call went to voice mail. I got no response. Sometime in January or thereabouts,. I called the sales man on his private number. He was home and promised to check and call me back. He did not. Later, about Apr or May 2023, I called again to speak to the sales manager. A guy who identified as 'one of the sales managers' took my order number and checked. He then told me to speak to the salesman and then transferred my call. Again I got voice mail. I left another message to call me. I truly believe that this last guy saw something or knew something at that point, but did not tell me. So, when my granddaughters husband who works for Ford asked my about when my truck would be delivered, I asked him to check it out. He contacted me and said it appeared that my order was cancelled. So, enraged, I went to the dealership this past Monday and demanded to speak to the one man who makes sales decisions. I had to wait about an hour, but finally I did get to speak with him. I told him that I believe my truck came in and they sold it to someone who was willing to pay more. He denied that would happen. Sorry this is to long, but bottom line, he is trying to find me a new truck in my color with all the accessories I ordered. I told him it would have to be at the contract price and he said that could not happen. My question is, should I just walk away from the deal? Should I take the new truck if he can find one and pay the extra? Or should I see an attorney?

Sounds shady to me. Do MTC members a solid and name the dealer.

Sounds like your order never got placed & verified, or they've managed to pull a fast one and sell it out from under you at a markup.

Did the dealer give you any documentation on paper about the order? Sales Code, Order Code? Did they COVP (verify) the order with Ford? COVP would've required a copy of your DL, or the DL#. Did you give your DL# to them?

See if you can get any info from Ford Customer Service at

This is pure speculation on my part, but based off the timeline my guess would be that your order was scheduled for build, delayed, cancelled by Ford at the end of 2022 production, then your dealer failed to get you set for 2023 rollover.

Do you have any emails about your build date changing? Particularly a build date changing to the week of December 19, 2022.

My order that was rolled over to 2023 was originally scheduled Oct 31, then delayed to Nov 7, then Dec 5, then “delayed” (actually cancelled) with a Dec 19 date.

If this is the case, you’ll have very little support from Ford or with a lawyer and the matter of purchasing now or not comes to a personal choice.

Edit to add-
I just looked back on my emails and texts. November 2022 through December we were dealing with rollover matters. If you weren’t having those conversations, I think it’s incredibly likely your dealer hadn’t rolled your order over for you and it was cancelled by Ford.

Another example of why the dealers need to be out of order business.

Based on what has happened to others in similar situations you may not have any recourse at this dealer. You should share the dealers name and your experience here on MTC and on any other social media you may belong to as well as the dealers own social media pages.

If you still want a Maverick, you should find another dealer.

Not assigning any blame here but I learned early on from the MTC forum to contact Customer service by chat or phone at least once a month and have dealer code and order number handy. It is very easy to assume dealer is doing things correctly. It's up to the customer to follow up.

This is very likely what happened. The roll over process was very confusing. The '22 to '23 process for the Mavericks was different than the process for the Bronco. I have what I consider a good dealer but I had to educate my salesman of the correct process. When I went in to place my '23 order he told me I didn't have to. He said it would be an automatic rollover. It wasn't. (it was for the Broncos). A number of persons have complained of not getting a "rollover"

I understand the '23 to '24 will be something different again.

Yes my rollover was set to 19 dealer told me thats as low as they can go.....not true as we all know. Didn't want to call him a liar to his face or it may have gone to 99...
So numerous calls to customer service a concern was started with a case number six weeks later was scheduled.

Not sure what's up with that dealership but if I was you could try a different dealership and tell them what happened and see if there any way they can help out get a truck fast like.

For future dealings with car dealers, always go to the dealership, get to know the sales manager, get documentation of your order including what you ordered and pricing. While on order check in for a few minutes with them so they remember who you are. These won't stop truly dishonest dealers but should help with lazy and uninformed dealers.

Sorry that happened.

At this point, I would say chances of finding your exact truck setup are pretty slim. Especially since if they do find one, it's going to be at another dealer who isn't going to want to give it up without their $5k market adjustment. Likely you are going to need to order a '24 and wait.

With that said, there is no reason to continue to give this dealer your business. Seems to me they have shown they don't value it, and it gets you nothing. You have missed out on any/all incentives that were available.

But, that doesn't mean that they "cost" you anything either. An attorney won't be able to do anything for you, as you aren't out anything. Your contract was just them ordering a truck from Ford and giving you a chance to buy it.

Unless you can get Ford corporate to do a one-off special for you, you're just going to have to consider yourself as starting all over.

Similar happened to me so I went with a different dealership. If you had a deposit and any paper work talk to your Atty General office. I got shady dealer to settle and give me some of the profit from the sale of my original order. No one else is getting scheduled for a MY23 so go to another dealer while the order banks are still open.

For everyone - Ford dealers hate selling the Maverick, they hate it. The reason why because of the Ford Motor Company. The lack of supply chain management, lack of communication and the lack of margin on the Maverick for the dealer.

I have bought all my Fords from the same dealer for over 25 years Bill Brown Ford, they are a very good dealer and we have an excellent salesman, they are not applying make-ups on Mavericks. There is not a salesperson there that wants to sell Mavericks, the dealers income and sales person commission is just not there on the Maverick.

We ordered our 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid on 9/16/22, three updates on production constraints; then in July when the 2024 order banks opened we ordered the same truck. Literally three weeks ago we finally received notice that the 2023 is going to be scheduled to be built on 9/25/23, finally a vin number. Once that happened the 2024 was cancelled against my wishes as who knows if the 2023 will actually be built. Until I actually see it in person, I am not holding my breath!
