Since I put fenders on my hybrid, my tires look tiny and unbalanced. I want to get larger tires to make it look proportional, but everyone I see gets AT. I don’t need to go off road, although I do go on dirt roads occasionally, but mostly city driving. Plus I don’t want to negate the mpg’s. Anybody got new larger A/S tires? What do you advise?

Ive been having the same thoughts/concerns plus the added issue of not having to spend tons of $ on a nice A/T. Ended up seeing that the biggest drops of MPG are from tire weight more than anything when getting larger tires so I started looking for more light weight 245/65/r17s and stumbled upon these:

Gonna be installing them on Monday so I cant say anything on how itll go

You cited weight as a concern, however, I couldn't determine what is the weight of this tire? I didn't see that in the specs.

All Season? No. But I'd go with at least a 235/65R17 if I was going for anything.

I personally go with All Terrains that are 3 peak rated because I live in Montana and use them during winter too - but I may get dedicated Snows this time around. Either way, I hit the trails pretty often and make use of the extra grip an A/T provides over an A/S. If your mostly on pavement - stick with the A/S.

Also, tire weight does not cause MPG drops as much as the change in revolutions per mile does. I'd be less concerned with the weight of these tires and more about the size differences. That said, 235 is a stock tire size and you won't notice any massive hits. Going up another size to a 245 you will start to notice more. Lastly, stick with the 65R's. The increase from 65R to a 70R in 235/245 will massively change your revolutions per mile. It's not worth it. 65R17's have plenty of sidewall already for these trucks.

If you want the weight of any tires, I think @Discount Tire includes them on their specs when you are using them to shop for tires, or you can just google the specific tire and use the manufacturers listings.

There are also sticky threads in the wheels/tires/brakes section that cover a majority of commonly used setups. I suggest you head there before buying anything.

For you, a 235/65R17 A/S would be perfect. Personally, I think the Michelin Cross Climate 2's are the best A/S you will find in that size. They have been picked apart by scientists and engineers all over YT for good reasons. Very reliable tires. Plus, they look damn good.

OP, like me, is from Arizona. I have no need for AT and will go with an AS 245/65 R17 or 245/60 R18 too. (depending on Trim/Packages when I finalize the order 7/17). Weight will be a concern.

TBF, those are stock tires and you cannot buy them from a tire place. You either get the normal AT3W's or the newer "crossover" version - the Trails. If you get 235/65R17 AT3W's from anywhere else than off a stock Maverick, they will be more aggressive all around. The trails are the ones you can buy anywhere that are similar to the nerfed AT3W's that FORD used for the Mavericks.

Falken developed the version of AT3W's you have specifically for the Mavericks then came out with the "Trail" versions for consumers as a crossover option around the same time. It's likely that going into future models you will just see the Trails once the stock/production line ends at Falken for the requested amount of nerfed AT3W's from FORD. BTW, not saying they are bad tires... please don't confuse my use of the term "nerfed" for that. They are just a one off design specifically for the Mavericks.

I definitely agree it is revolutions per mile but knew I wanted either 235/70/r17s or 245/65/r17s for a bigger tire look so between those the difference was really just their weight (although 235/70/r17 has better rpms it was harder to find it with the specifications and price point I wanted them at).

I went with a 265/60/18 AT. I believe they are the largest tire you can fit without a suspension Mod. They do not rub and drive very nice. They are Hankook ATM (came from a stock Ranger). I was looking for a somewhat mild AT tread and found it. On my Dakota I have Falken Wild Peak AT3 LT (load range E). Wild Peak AT3 are by far the best AT tire I have ever owned. They have 41k miles on them and only down 2/32 of tread (15/32 left).

I thank you very MUCH for this information 👍 I did not know this 🤔. That's a shame I really like these tires I live in North /West Tn next to Ky we had a Hell of a winter last year ☃🥶 -8 with a wind chill or -22 sleet ,ice ,snow 🥶. I live in the middle of nowhere they do not believe in snow plows. My Maverick Hybrid went all over the place with those tires 👍👻. I hope the Trail is as good as these are . Again thank you for the heads up .👍😊👻
