While each of us are enjoying our Maverics, enjoying a long holiday weekend, do not forget to take a moment and remember those families whose losses are being remembered Monday on Memorial Day. So many brave young men and women have given their lives over the years to serve and protect our great country, we should never forget them and the fact they left families behind. Monday will be a tough day for those families, so lets lift them up. Without their sacrifice, we would not have a country where we have the freedom to enjoy Maverics or anything else. Brave ones, we honor you and thank you for the ultimate price you paid for each of us.

It is men like him who we will be eternally thankful for. God bless you and your family.

My condolences. Tough to grow up minus one grandpa.
Worked with an old-timer whose bomber was shot down over Chechoslovakia. He bailed out, was shot at by the enemy, while still in his parachute. Got hit in the left one. Chech partisans helped him recover. He spent the rest of the war as a ground troop, fighting with the underground.
When he got home, he married his girlfriend, and now has a mess of grandkids.
Thank the Lord that the right one still worked fine!

Thank you @Larrythelunatic. It was harder on my grandma and dad, as my grandmother gave birth to my dad about 2 weeks after my grandfather was KIA.
My grandmother was never the same after finding out about grandpa's death.

My biggest regret in life is that I never served. I have family that has served this nation in virtually every conflict from the revolution until today. Whether they were direct ancestors, cousins, nephews, in-laws, or in-laws I have never met who passed because of their service, I have nothing but respect for their sacrifices on my behalf.
I know one in-law lost several friends in service, I cannot imagine how that feels or what memories of them and their experiences haunt him. Under the circumstances they could not even go to their aid. I can only imagine that it must weigh upon them.

It is perhaps such a realization of what family members have gone through that this day brings a solemn reflection upon these men and women.
I urge anyone who has never read the stories of the men who received the Congressional Medal of Honor to find someone from your, or near your location and see what sacrifice they made on the behalf of those they served with. If nothing, it's humbling.

Such a moving reply. I just wish we had more people in this nation that had that respect and attitude. My did fought in WWII, my brother fought in Korea (buried him 4 yrs ago) and I lost some of my dearest friends in Viet Nam. I have literally sat here ant wept a big part of the day as I remember those who paid the price. I know there are restrictions, so if ok with you, let me PM you something else on the subject, since we are not talking about Mavericks.

Rick, you are so right. We often focus too much on things and not on the fact we have a free country so we can enjoy things because of those who really are the heroes. Hope you and family had a great Memorial weekend.

Today is a very special day, the haunting melody of TAPS that I heard numerous times today never fails to choke me up. The men and women who bought us the opportunity to barbecue today with their lives can never be thanked. Our lives today were the result of their sacrifice, thank each of you and their loved ones who had to carryon after that fateful knock on their door. As a Nation we can only try to be worthy!
