I received a letter from Ford today. At first, I thought it was some sort of recall letter and had a big frown on my face. After reading the letter, it turns out that a label needs to go under the hood to meet "Environmental Certification Requirements". I have attached a picture of the label. There are four pages of installation instructions; two in English and two in Spanish. One page in each language tells me how to open the hood and secure it in an upright position. Ford dealers are also authorized to install the label. So, I could set up an appointment, drive 25 miles to the nearest dealer and wait while the label is installed. Hard to say what the dealer charges for this challenging fix??? I believe I can handle this job on my own although I have little mechanical skill!!! :D

I will do this FIRST thing in the AM as I do want to be environmentally certified. Without the label there may be a penalty similar to the penalty of removing the tag on a new mattress;)!! Hey, who says Ford isn't on top of the situation! This appears to only apply to an Ecoboost engine.

Per the accompanying letter, the present label does not list EGR and EGRC components in the engine content. I presume other EB owners will get this letter and label also.

Looks like 1-10 10 being Zero Emissions and 9 being lowest emissions,

EcoBoost gets a 5
Hybrid gets a 6

The number is grams of NOx per mile.

EcoBoost Tier3 Bin70 = 0.070 g/mi

Hybrid Tier3 Bin50 = 0.050 g/mi

Also, years ago these would have been called SULEV or Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle.

Both EB and Hybrid have been "demoted" to Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle. The emissions have stayed the same for the past decade, but the requirements to qualify as super ultra low have become more stringent.

LDT = Light Duty Truck (anything under 10,000 lbs generally)
LDT2 = Light Light Duty Truck (anything F-150 and smaller)
Feds have two kinds of light trucks, CA I guess one.

My EB was built in June, 2022. Looks like a lot of EB owners will be getting this letter and label.... 🤔

There was fellow on the forum last week who was charged $185/hr. for 13.5 hours to replace the oil pan. If it only takes 15 minutes, looks like we should bill Ford about $45. You go first and let me know how it works out!!!:D

I got the letter and sticker too. Of course, I don't have my 22 anymore. But it was a fun read. If you want the dealer to do it... Why in the world would anyone feel the need to go to the dealer to put a sticker on for them? I can only imagine what the dealer must think when someone comes in to make an appointment to apply a decal.

My dealer told me to just drop in when I got the sticker and they'd put it on for me, so why not? Then they will update the records to show it was done and that notice will clear in FordPass.

Is it a California requirement? I think the adhesive on the back of the sticker is known to cause cancer by The State of California, so be careful and wear the proper PPE.

If I were taking my Mav in for service, sure, I'd let them do it, but I'm not doing a 25-mile round-trip to do something I can do in 2 minutes. Since it doesn't pertain to me because I no longer have my 22, I wasn't aware there was any record update needed to be done. I no longer have the 22 on my Ford Pass.
