A.R.E MX Series truck cap finally arrived and installed

I asked a local (Orange County CA) A.R.E. shell dealer to get on the list for an MX-series shell in December 2022. A.R.E. finally accepted my configuration for production in late January, and it finished production around April 4. The shell arrived on Saturday, April 15, and was installed this morning, April 18. My configuration is as follows:

• OTR Black Spray (Line-X) rather than painted to match
• Tilt-down picture window
• Side sliding windows
• Double T-locks
• Charcoal Gray headliner (no lights or roof hangars)
• Roof rack rails only

I know the cab high would look a little cleaner since the bed is so short and the cab lines are long. Yet, I wanted extra height for putting things in the back.

I drove the truck home at various speeds to see if the large gap to the back of the cab created any noise. I am happy to report that it doesn't make any noise. I decided on the tilt-down picture window so I could clean the area between the cap and the shell from time to time.

I have an MX with OTR on order too, I thought this was a real window, kind of weird that it's not, seems like a waste of effort to put it up there.

I thought it was a skylight as well, and I agree that it seems dumb not to have it be a window.

It looks like the MX is a bit taller, but has a little smaller windows. Interesting. Originally was going to go with Ranch or Jason, but I havent been able to get anyone in the area I need to install it to respond to email and their website still isnt updated to include it. I like how it mates better but I like the MX height.

Looks great. I love its size. Our Tremor is being built this week. I think I am going to order the MX for $4016 as soon as it is built. Were getting:

MX topper $2870
HPR tri coat paint $150
Front sliding tilt window $150
Drivers side windoor $195
4 cloths hangers on ceiling $172 (for dog beds and such)
Yakima roof tracks $260
Fake vista glass $$$ priceless!

Subtotal $3797
Iowa tax $265.79

Total $4062.79

Its alot and the GFC baddass one is the same price, but with no window options for my pups its a no go.

Being 6'6 I need a door that goes up high the Leer one looks like it's at nipple height lol.

Can you be more specific about what measurement you need?

The height from the top of a rib in the bed to the bottom of the shell opening (the maximum load height) is 36 1/4 inches or approximately 92 cm

The height from the top of a rib in the bed to the inside headliner (the maximum usable height inside the bed) is 41 inches or approximately 104 cm.

I hope those are the measurements you are looking for.

By the way, it's approximately 8.5 feet from the ground to the door when it is open. I figure this is important for people to know if they are short. I am 6' 1", and my arm is almost fully extended to reach up to pull the door down to close it. You might want to request A.R.E. put a pull-down strap on one of the central rivets to pull the door down from its fully open position.

That's amazing. I was looking for ground to door top height.

I love the Leer midrise but the back door only opens straight out. It would only be a matter of time before I got gouged. 8'5 is plenty safe from walking into it.
Now to figure out a way to have a ladder or kayak on it with a rack more than 3 feet apart. I am thinking a cab mount that meets a rack on the mx.

Got mine in and installed today, definitely happy with it. The OTR coating does a good job blending in with the plastic trim.
