drilling milwaukee packout mounting plates in bed

Waiting for my maverick order to arrive in a month and I'm looking into secure and removable storage options for the maverick, and right now I'm leaning towards the milwaukee packout XL bins (lockable , weatherproof, I already have the rolling cart). Mounting plates as shown in the photo up against the bed gate, so when the gate is locked you can't remove the bins.

Does anyone know what's under the maverick at the end of the bed so I can determine if I can drill and mount the plates shown below? I'd imagine the gas tank is in the area so the concern is clearance - both to drill and to be able to get a nut in there to secure the plate. Not concerned with rust I'll just patch the holes with bed liner.

I know thats where they drilled the holes in the gas tanks on that recall with SIBL last year. Proceed with caution. Something else to look into is expansion nuts, inserted from above. They use em on roof racks so should be stable enough. They work like a threaded rivet.

what I was thinking also, RIVNUTs (stainless) so you can remove the brackets easily when needed. don't go cheap, buy a good set with a proper crimp tool.

invest in a good drill stop collar to prevent drilling too deep

Good suggestion, definitely seems like the way to go and no dropping nuts under the vehicle when removing the plates.

should last a long time if you don't over tighten them, in fact I'd use a 1/4" ratchet or better yet a nut driver.

@maverickeric There's about 1" between the bed and the gas tank (from the lower ribs). I'll take pictures tomorrow, I have drilled through and used rivnuts to secure the brackets. There is one spot in particular that I'll highlight, avoid drilling there because that's exactly where the anti-rattle spacers are. Drilling there won't break anything, but will make it tough to replace the spacer in the future.

I recommend using Loctite and covering with a plug when not in use to limit corrosion.
