For Jeeps mounting an air compressor under the hood or under a seat is often done. This air compressor is used to air up the tires after off roading or fixing a flat.

I found this photo of the back of a Maverick, and there looks to be plenty of space to put an air compressor in one of the bed sides.

I think it would work. The cubby storage pocket in the right rear is plenty big enough for a compressor from what I've seen and you could wire it into the 12v power doodad pretty much right beside it no?

Yes, but this looks like the same amount of space or close to it, is in the front of the bed too. I am not sure how to get to it, besides taking the bed sides off? Maybe from below?
The wiring option looks to be about the same. Just had plans to use the cubby for other things so if an other place for the compressor is there it would be a better option.

That's a great idea, but what are the advantages and disadvantages between a more hidden compressor set up, and something that needs to plug into the bed 12V (@ 20 amp max, so 240 watts) or 400 watt AC bed plug?

For example on my truck, which will have the bed 400 watt AC plug and bed lighting button, I plan to add a 12V power port connection and a couple of USB-PD ports, so that the power is routed to standard directly usable connections.

I used to pigtail to install a 12V outlet. When I plug in my air compressor it runs very slow. The outlet in the dash works MUCH better. Probably too long a run for that much drain. Might want to plan on a 12V run of good wire.

It sounds like a power wire would have to be run. Maybe mounting under the hood would be a better option because of the shorter wire length. Some of the 12v air compressors want as much as 35 amps!

I think most people hard mount the air compressor to save space, no air compressor siting under the back seat or in the bed, and with some of the compressors needing so much power you would need to add some way of getting power to it even if it is not mounted.

I do know someone who uses their air compressor to also power an air horn. Also on a jeep to work an air locking differential. And I once helped a friend patch an air tank that will for an air suspension, the tank was filled by hard mount mini air compressor. Not that I will be doing any of those things.

I'm not aware of any air compressors with tanks that can run on 400 watts of AC power or 240 watts of DC power, which are the general limits of bed power without modifications. Inflators can work on that kind of power, but don't have tanks, so they can't run stuff like air horns, air powered tools, etc.

I've seen air horn kits that use an inflater and a small auxiliary tank. The horn runs off the tank and the inflater refills as needed. Keeps the system small and compact. Neat little compact setup.

Interesting, I've never seen those. Do you know of any you can point me to? My google fu isn't coming up with that beyond air horn kits that include tanks normally.

Just thinking out loud. Is it preferable a fixed air Compressor with a very long hose, or a air compressor with a long power cord?
I have my own answer, … a long power cord.
